Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios 3DS issues

3DS not working so unable to use card via paypal – what use is sending this card in this state? AND charging me £20 a month for the privilege of a card I cant use? Time for a call I think.

You’re right – the whole launch has been full of problems.
Good luck getting any help from Barclays. They couldn’t even identify me from the (full) card number… I’ve given up speaking to them after however many calls I made. The best answer I could get out of them is that “it will be fixed 6 calendar days after activation”. Raised a formal complaint and have still had no response from them.

SUCCESS! So after a 1 hour phone call to Barclayfarce, 3DS is now fixed and I was able to complete an online transaction with Tesco groceries with the 3DS prompt for app/text appearing and 2fa code pushed to the app.

I initially spoke with a normal agent who wasnt really able to help, but she raised a complaint on my behalf, so see if that gets anywhere.

After this she put me through to the fraud department, and whatever he did fixed 3DS for me.

Whatever he did really ought to be set up on the cards from the day they are activated, customers shouldnt need to endure a 1hour call to get the card working properly.

Strange, I seem to have lost the ability to quote posts, and no longer able to edit the previous post.

Anyway, looks like progress on an individual level for now?
I was put through to the fraud team and am now receiving authentication requests to the Barclaycard app on my phone.
Have to say the 2 factor authentication (or whatever the process is called) is not very smooth. The Barclaycard app keeps disappearing on my phone, and I have to login to it and go find the authentication request, rather than it just popping up on my phone automatically.

Looks like things may be starting to work at last. For me anyway.
I hope this isn’t something they are fixing on a person to person basis when we log issues & complaints.

Yea its definitely smoother on amex app, doesnt seem to give a proper notification on my iphone, have to go into the app and hit the bell at the top right to view/confirm the transaction request. Could always just choose sms option instead – tried that too since and it worked fine.

Right, some good news and progress at long last!
Managed to add the card to PayPal which is working fine now. Will try some other retailers that I use often, so here goes.
I managed this without further input from Barclays so that’s looking promising.

I received my Barclaycard Avios Plus card on Monday but as the envelope was already open and torn down the side I immediately rang Barclaycard who logged it as lost and have issued a new card. Still waiting for it to arrive, but following the comments here part of me is glad that I wasn’t able to use it as I would have been as frustrated as everyone else. Maybe by the time my new card arrives the issues (or at least some of the issues) will have been fixed. At least I can hope.

For anyone who has managed to get it to work with Curve, can you confirm if you get the Avios points, i.e. 1.5x points per £1.

My 3DS has suddenly start working. Hadn’t got round to phoning Barclaycard so hopefully they’re fixing it for everyone automatically.

Same here – Curve, eBay, PayPal all working fine at long last.

Hopefully Apple Pay will get sorted next.

    Yup, here’s hoping.

Huzzah! Got mine working with Curve too (right after receiving yet another email reminding me to activate the card). Will see how I get on with other transactions…

I just got a reminder to activate my (already activated) card too! LOL

Along with one five minutes later about “how to keep track of your spending”?
It’d be nice if they could tone down the spam.

Very relieved that 3DS is now working though!

It looks like we finally have lift off! I’ve been able to add it to curve and Paypal and actually do some online transactions.

The only thing now is the Avios and offer ‘tracking’ isn’t working on the app.

3DS requires you to make a chip and pin transaction first, for security reasons.

    As does Curve.

Once you’ve done that, you’re sorted (apparently).

I haven’t taken my card out of the house yet so chip & pin hasn’t been done yet.
Managed to link the card to Curve 2 or 3 days ago without making any previous online transactions. Used Curve to make a purchase without a problem at the same place that wouldn’t authenticate the 3ds thing, before and after I used curve there. In other words, the 3ds issue was still present with my card, but using Curve circumnavigated this.
The 3ds issues eventually sorted themselves yesterday after I spoke to the fraud team.
So in my case, chip & pin wasn’t a factor at all.

Amusingly, my complaint handler concluded the 3ds issues were due to merchants not setting themselves up properly and wasn’t a problem from the Barclays side. I really couldn’t be bothered to argue as the problem is now sorted (for me anyway).

I think Barclays need to carry out a review of all that went wrong during this new product launch. This needs to include the many reports of envelopes being opened / tampered.

The envelopes weren’t tampered with – the logical answer is that Barclays forgot to seal them ….

If you look at the photo I posted, you’ll see the envelope is ripped open above the seal.

Here are the photos again Rob.
This is how the envelope arrived, before I attempted to look inside.
Look at where it was sealed, and how it has been opened by ripping the perforation.
    This is deliberate tampering Rob.

As another datum: Just to note re the 3DS stuff that I tried to use another (visa) Barclaycard I hold to buy online on Wednesday and it failed to load the 3DS thing and kept failing so I had to use a different card. It may be that Barclaycard had a broader fail on that earlier this week that was nothing to do with these new cards in particular.

I’ve had 3DS successes now, since circa 48hrs after my first transaction. However, its still failing on the council tax site. (Run by Capita)

    @Aston100
my envelope was also ripped along perforation, but also down one edge. It looks like it was cut with a letter opener.

My hypothesis was they were damaged at packaging plant and held back. When people started to complain about delays, someone panicked and gave them a JFDI to get them delivered.

Mine was clearly sealed and then reopened.
