BA appear to have sharply increase the number of Avios required for a reward flight from Manchester on Aer Lingus. The peak price has increased from 25k Avios to 35k Avios each way. The price on AerClub is still 25k Avios each way. So if I were to book 4 seats using one Companion Voucher it would cost me more to book it on BA.com using a voucher than it would paying full price without voucher for the same flights on AerClub. This is a pretty farcical situation as it seriously devalues the AMEX Companion voucher.
When did BA start doing Reward Flight Saver pricing on partner airlines?
What MAN route are you looking at?
I was looking at MAN to MCO. It was previously 16250 Off Peak and 25000 Peak, it’s been increased to 30000 Off Peak and 35000 Peak.
Clearly BA didn’t like that passengers were redeeming their Avios for MCO flights from MAN. They couldn’t just remove the flights from sale like they did JAL flights because of Companion vouchers so they just massively devalued them. Even by BA standards this is pretty poor.
Have the surcharges changed to RFS pricing as well though?
Pricing MAN-MCO return off-peak in economy is showing at 70k avios plus £317.73 which is bonkers. I can’t find availability from other airports with a quick search so don’t know if this is a general change by BA.
Taken one for the team this morning spent 90+ minutes on the phone to 3 BA agents. They’ve all confirmed that it is NOT 35k Avios per person (Peak) each way in Y that the website is generating. It is still 25k Avios per person (Peak) each way in Y. The taxes & fees they were not able to generate as the system they normally use to do this is down. They kindly agreed to send a ghost booking away to have the taxes & fees generated manually and I will get that and post it here once I receive the figures. Seems the confusion is all down to BA.com giving out random prices. Typical British Airways IT….
British Airways is in a shambolic state in 2024. I spoke to 4 different people who all give me different taxes & fees for these flights. One person said £4700 for 4 people in Y (+ 150k Avios), another said they couldn’t work it out, another said £2300 at which point I insisted it was sent to ticketing to work out. Ticketing came back and say £1170. Almost identical to what we paid this year.
Is it really that difficult to make your website and systems work? If I didn’t have a Companion voucher to use I would just have booked on AerClub. Their systems work perfectly.
