Has anyone come across this oddity….?
I’m looking to move an existing Aeromexico Virgin points redemption booking to a later flight, which is showing on a redemption search as being available but Aeromexico apparently then says can’t be booked when a Virgin booking agent attempts to confirm it. Trying to book the same flight online/via the app results in an error at the payment stage.
Talking to one of the Exec team, the theory seems to be that Aeromexico hold redemption availability back for their own members – but that doesn’t explain why it shows as available on a Virgin redemption search and has done for the past week.
Something seems broken somewhere.
Are you trying to change the existing flight or make a new booking? I made a successful AM booking about 3 weeks ago via the Virgin website.
Change an existing flight. The original booking, made a couple of months ago, was fine.
That was what I was attempting to do (or more accurately to rebook and then cancel) when I got the error at the payment stage.
So this evening they are bookable and the booking team has managed to move us.
I half suspect the issue earlier was confusion between the Exec Team and the Booking Team on the class of booking as the email I had from the former after my conversation with them referred to “Premium”, which of course doesn’t exist on AM short haul flights (I was trying to move a business class booking).
That said, the booking team and I still had issues I noted above last week, so it may be something else entirely. Since a search has consistently shown the seats as available throughout that period there was certainly something odd going on.
Just spotted the issue I had booking the seats online looks similar to an issue someone else reported a couple of weeks ago with another partner, and may be an extension of an issue people have experienced booking AF/KLM flights:

IT issues affecting partner bookings seem at least partly the cause though whatever is happening isn’t affecting all booking attempts (at least with AM).
