Ambassador / Diamond status

Looking at the thread I may change my SFO booking to an Ambassador free weekend booking. A few questions:

    – if I redeem Ambassador status with points does the certificate appear in my account immediately (I’m staying next weekend)

    – it it worth booking a higher room category to trigger the one category upgrade. Example cheapest room is $266 with the next category at $284 (improved view) or Junior Suite for $395 with the next category full suite at $658

    – one room category mentions club floor – I assume this doesn’t mean lounge access?

    – I will be booking points stays either side of the Ambassador nights – are they likely to honour the higher category room for all 4 nights?

I’m currently Diamond so interested in locking status in for 2023. Not sure if Diamond will unlock any other room upgrades?

    Yes to all your questions.

All booked. Received the status extension until 2023. Looking forward to see what room upgrade I receive from a corner junior suite. I clicked through the free weekend certificate to book the room, do I need to show the certificate at the reception? I can’t find it anywhere on the site or app as it seems to have disappeared once used for the booking.

@Molly, that’s very odd, you can usually see the Ambassador certificate until you’ve checked in. The hotel can see it so you don’t need to show them anything. The booking should stipulate that it’s the BOGOF one, sometimes the hotel will adjust the price (and show your upgrade) before the travel date, sometimes they don’t. You can always contact them beforehand and negotiate! Sometimes you can get a double or triple upgrade for a small amount extra. (Not an Ambassador booking, but the IC BOS let me upgrade from a standard award room to an absolutely colossal 1 bedroom suite (more like an apartment) for 3 nights for $160 per night earlier this year.
This is even easier to negotiate if you spot an “e-upgrade” offer in your booking.

In the app log in and then click on “account” and then on “rewards wallet”

My voucher is showing there even though I’ve made a booking using it but the stay has yet to take place.

It looks like that’s the place other rewards you earn from stays will appear once you’ve selected them.

Thanks @ChrisC found the voucher in the rewards wallet.

I was reading about this earlier. I took out ambassador status this February as I had a long IC stay. I am diamond until December 2022, my ambassador will expire in February 2023. Is there any way to attempt this to keep diamond for 2023? My account shows as ambassador and no extension options. Thanks

I’m in a similar position. I took out Ambassador in April while I held Spire status, but my Spire (now Diamond) wasn’t extended and remained with an expiry date of December 2022. My Ambassador membership expires on 1 May 2023 and I’m not sure if/how I can renew it before my Diamond expires…

You will probably be able to renew amb via your acct 3 months before it expires.

I was hoping for this at Kimpton Fitzroy last year. I got a call from the manager a few days after booking asking if I’d like to pay for the upgrade (standard room to suite) or move rooms. I was quoted more than the cash difference between the two rooms to upgrade. When I questioned this I was told they could charge what they liked! I stayed at The Savoy instead.

First two ambassador weekend nights I’m upgraded from a Junior Suite to a Full suite, my further two points bookings still show a standard room. The e-upgrade shows the suite but for a $300 supplement / night. I’ll take my chances at reception and hopefully won’t be moved.

Thanks for all the advice. Upgraded to a great corner suite, all nights linked so no room move for the additional rewards nights, also have lounge access, not sure why. I thought you’d have to pay extra for the lounge?

Just renewed my Ambassador and the Diamond Elite rollover happened instantly.
