£200 credit for buying The Ivy gift cards (in the restaurant) posted for me this morning. Pretty fast, purchased on the 23rd, credit on the 26th.
@Dr Tom
Which branch was that?Birmingham, but I see others have had success at other branches. A very easy purchase and the person who served me knew exactly what to do and how to load value on the gift card.
200 gift card purchased on-site at Ivy Victoria tracked today
For anyone in doubt about buying gift cards, why you do not ask AMEX directly via chat? Then you have your proof and reassurance in writing 🙂
I had a credit not track for an eligible restaurant in mid-November.
Was fobbed off twice by chat saying I must wait until 90 days after offer end, and that it’s not possible to add the credit manually due to system limitations.
Second time I asked to raise a complaint (on the basis that I want to cancel the card, and I would be forced to pay 3+ months extra card fees before getting the credit I’m owed), and then the agent almost immediately manually added the credit.
I’m not sure why they put up resistance at first, it doesn’t reflect good customer service for such an expensive card. Strange that a system limitation suddenly doesn’t exist when I’m about to make a complaint.
The original Ivy, the West Street one, was never on the list. But have just received my credit form there.
I ate at the original ivy on Sunday but the card, I had the offer on, would not work using my iPhone on their card reader and I did not have the card with me so used my wife’s supp card.
The meal has appeared on my statement but no credit.
Might have to use online chatMy credit after dining at the Savoy Grill processed in 3 days. Great experience both at the Savoy and Amex.

My wife’s savoy grill credit posted the following day, mine however as I didn’t use my card but my wife’s card is not being accepted as it is only applicable to the main card. I explained my card in the apple wallet would not work on their card reader but CS were not having any of it.
Suspect I may have to call up and argue itActually, I decided to test this, I’ve bought a £25 (the minimum) GC and will see if the credit appears in time for the end of the year (when I did an in-person transaction at Aster in London, the credit appeared 5 days later). If the credit appears I’ll buy the other £95 online, if not I’ll traipse into town to buy a GC in person
No credit appeared by today (10 days after purchase) so it’s probably not coming.
Good news is that buying a gift card in person at the Edinburgh branch of the Ivy just now was quick and easy and was put through on the restaurant’s normal card machine… Just meant paying Edinburgh parking charges 🙂Looking to make a trip down to the Ivy Tower Bridge to purchase a GC in the restaurant – I have £70 of unused credit left and will put to towards a trip to any of the Ivy restaurants later in the new year.
That will keep me having the Platinum card for the next 2 months looking to close it as I have hit my £6k spend bonus.

Suspect I may have to call up and argue itUnfortunately I don’t see what your argument would be. It’s clear it’s main card only.
Firmly have to ask for a large goodwill gesture after the offer ends (you could use the offer proper up until it expires and get double) but that means you’ve then missed out £200 free if they flatly refuse.

so this is exactly why its harder to get amex to manually apply credits…
I paid £200 for Hakkasan via their booking website for 4 x £50 deposits. After dinner they gave me a bill for £80 after taking off the £200 already paid. Amex now saying that I don’t qualify as they billed that via stripe. My statement clearly shows Hakkasan Mayfair London.
Anyone had a similar experience? What should I do?
Annoyingly we ate at 3 other restaurants where the credit wiyid have made up,a portion of the bill and ivy bill was £140 🤦🏻♂️
My point was I tried to use my card to pay via my iPhone and ivy’s processing IT could not accept it, somthatsxwhybi. Issued out on the credit I might ring the restaurant tomorrow and buy one over the phone.
No idea where my card is as my wife sent me a photo of it as it arrived after I travelled abroad and I can’t find it now 🤷🏻♂️I paid £200 for Hakkasan via their booking website for 4 x £50 deposits. Anyone? Or should I just buy an Ivy gift card? But that might not bill in time so could end up with two sets of £200 🙂

Personally, I would push Amex to give you the credit for the payment you’ve already made. At the moment, the worst case scenario is you’re out £200. If you go through the Ivy route, your best case scenario is still being out £200 and your worst case scenario, you’re out £400.
(of course, you do have the food/voucher if you would have spent that anyway – and I would say that an in-store gift card purchase should post with today’s date)
Amex are taking a tough line on this offer. I have just called them and they won’t budge even though I explained I tried to use the card in my phone wallet but it would not work. Lots of places don’t accept Amex on an iPhone for whatever reason.
In years gone by they would accept it is an issue and issue a credit, they seem to be taking a very firm view on accessing the offer.
I thought about calling the ivy and buying £200 of gift cards but I cannot guarantee I would use them so thinking about writing it offI bought £200 of Ivy vouchers yesterday (instore), its in my pending payments today (1st Jan), however if I click on ‘Savings’ on my online Amex account, I see the £200 IVY on there. So pretty chuffed I managed to get this free £200 on the last day!

I completely see why they are sticking to their guns.

Because I can’t find the card as my wife misplaced it 😡 when she sent me a photo the card to activate as I was in Mallorca when the card arrived. I have never used the platinum physical card and Apple Pay fails in many places using my ba amex

Really, it was a genuine attempt to use my card at a venue that was listed as part of the offer I’m sure the ivy would confirm they can’t process Amex over Apple Pay. Personally I expect more from a company that charges £575 a year for a card, especially when friends have many better offers on their gold card for shopping in London than the platinum card has.
Replacement can be ordered easily online and comes within a few days normally.
And quite simply you didn’t use your card so you’re not eligible for the offer.
You’re relying on some massive good will to credit you £200 when you clearly didn’t use your card.
Btw are you saying the Ivy restaurants don’t accept Amex via Apple Pay? I’m sure I’ve paid before.
Platinum cards usually arrive the next day – so it’s confusing that you wouldn’t just order a replacement – which to be honest if the card has been mislaid you should do anyway!

I had the same issue with Yauatcha. See my earlier post. After a complaint, Amex manually credited the offer. I had the receipt to show but they didn’t ask for it.
I ended up doing a 2 hour round trip on NYE to The Ivy in York to get a gift card. Very quick credit by AMEX. Hopefully use it for when family visit later this year.

Thanks. Asked Amex to look into it. Will update.

I am saying that and the ivy have confirmed that via email, that Amex doesn’t work via contactless or Apple Pay at their restaurants.
I’ll be forwarding their email to Amex and expect to receive the credit.
