Hi all,
Just spoken to Amex Brighton about applying for a Platinum card. They appear to no longer have a minimum income requirement for the card, so it may have potentially gone away post offer. Just thought I’d let people know if they were previously thinking about applying but was rejected/didn’t apply due to the ?£50K requirement.
@Yamahaero, not clear from your post if you have ended up applying and confirming those supposition (“appear”, “may have potentially gone away” ) or you have just had an exchange with the CS team at Brighton.
From what I gather, the £50k min income was not even well known by the same team when rejections started to happens and as I have gathered from few University students/part time workers that applied for some of the free cards, they had also introduced min income on those cards not long ago.
It would be strange to introduce a non income requirement for a credit product only because of a sign up bonus.

For a long time it seemed there definitely wasn’t a hard minimum income, I was able to able to apply for a platinum on my minimal student income, and even after graduating while I was looking for a job. However I think recently there is one at least anecdotally from people I know who have tried to apply and also from Rob saying they have tightened things up.

I ended up calling, as my 3 months between applicatons is due soon, so thought I would try and double check before reapplying. The Brighton rep ended up putting me on hold for a while to check so not particulalrly sure how accurate his information is, but it at least seemed to be a semi-researched answer. guess we’ll probably have a better idea once people start applying for the card again post offer.
Player 2 was recently rejected for a plat as her income wasn’t high enough. Problem is she is a contractor through a limited company and she doesn’t draw down much in the way of dividends, so although her day rate is pretty good Amex said no because her personal income was deemed too low.
Has anyone applied for the card with LESS THAN £50K, post 13th of June? If so – what was the outcome?
My Dad was rejected for a Gold card the other day. Retired but owns home (mortgage paid), decent credit rating and has had BA Blue Amex for about 10 years. £16.5k income (household income £30k). First time ever rejected for a card.
My wife recently applied for the free BA card with income just over £20k and was accepted. Having been rejected approx. 3 months earlier
I got declined due to not earning enough about two weeks ago, I had a income of 28000, on the email I received I was told to phone a number to provide any more information on income to have my application looked at again, I was basically told that unfortunately I didn’t earn enough but would probably be successful in applying for a gold card.
A result then, because in my eyes Gold is a better option anyway!

Sometimes Amex offers MR points for upgrading from Gold to Platinum, so that might be a route if you still want the Platinum card and you’re eligible to upgrade.

Are people going to take out credit cards and then have someone in their family with a low personal income as a supplementary cardholder then? This would seem the way?

Doesn’t get you the sign-up bonus though 🤷🏻♂️
