Forums Payment cards American Express Amex nectar confusing email

  • 310 posts

I have the BA Premium card and Amex Platinum. I received an email today from nectar which suggested they’d award me ‘missed’ nectar points if I sign up to the nectar Amex. I don’t use nectar much but assume the large total is because I transferred some Avios to nectar last month.

“ Looks like you’ve been busy collecting points with Nectar. Want to bag even more points? The American Express® Nectar Credit Card’s got your back.

Over the last 3 months, you could have bagged 62259 points with the American Express Nectar Credit Card. That’s worth at least £311.3.1 We want to gift those missed points back to you.

All you need to do is apply and get approved for the American Express Nectar Credit Card. 2”

    The terms are:

    Terms and Conditions
    1) Could have collected points have been calculated based upon your past three months worth of Nectar transactions, if they were made using an American Express Nectar Credit Card and Nectar card to receive the bonus points offering. These points have been capped at 10,000 Nectar points.
    2) To qualify for the could have collected bonus points you must have applied and been approved for an American Express Nectar Credit Card within 30 days of the email send date. Your ‘could have collected’ bonus points will be added to your Account within 120 days from your date of approval. If you decide to cancel the American Express Nectar Credit Card within 120 days, the points will not be awarded

So, should it be claiming that I’ll earn 62,259 ‘missed’ points if I sign up or will it just be the 10k capped? If so this is very misleading. Also, the standard sign up offer is 20k nectar points but I assume I won’t get this due to holding other cards.

Interestingly their working on these emails seems to have changed recently.

    They used to state:
20,000 bonus points will be added onto your Account once you have been approved and a minimum of £2,000 has been spent and charged to the Account within three months of Account opening. All introductory offers are subject to change, can be withdrawn at any time. This new Cardmember offer is only available if you have not held a personal American Express Card within the previous 24 months. If you have held a personal American Express Card within the previous 24 months, you will be entitled to all other Card benefits excluding the welcome offer.

    But now state:
20,000 bonus points will be added onto your Account once you have been approved and a minimum of £2,000 has been spent and charged to the Account within three months of Account opening. All introductory offers are subject to change, can be withdrawn at any time. This new Cardmember offer is only available if you have not held a personal American Express® Nectar Credit Card within the previous 24 months. If you have held a personal American Express® Nectar Credit Card within the previous 24 months, you will be entitled to all other Card benefits excluding the welcome offer.

I think its safe to assume that it’s more likely a mistake from nectar rather than a genuine change to the terms and conditions.
