Amex Platinum airline transfer bonuses

Hi all,

Am planning a trip to Japan with family – two adults, once child. Have BA Premium Amex and Amex Plat. My wife also has BA premium Amex. Currently 330k Amex points, only about 100k Avios left after a recent booking.

We are thinking of using BA Amex by spending across the next few months on both cards to get 2x 241s. One each – use one for two us, one for solo so all 3 can do business.

To top up Avios, would transfer from Amex points to Avios. I keep reading about a current 30% bonus from Amex to Avios on US frequent traveler fora – is this available in the U.K.?

We are planning on travelling next summer (2024). Is the spend on BA Amex Premium to get 241s the smartest way of doing this? Or spend on Amex Plat and use another airline’s frequent flier program? Any thoughts on Amex to Avios promotions?

Basically, advice on where to put spend short term for best result would be helpful!

I’d hesitate to say there has never been a bonus but I dont rememeber one. The UK credit card market is very different mainy due to the government controls

The best advice is to maximise your sign up bonuses (which do regularly get special offers) and maximise your referral bonuses. This has been covered several times on here

I think your best bet is to try to use both your 241 vouchers. You’ll be on 2 separate bookings though. You’ll probably have to book them over the phone as soon as the tickets are released, so you and your partner may both need to call at the same time to secure the tickets, as I’m not sure if an agent is able to hold seats across two different BAEC accounts.
