AMEX Platinum airline discount

Hi.

Thinking about taking out a Platinum Card and wondering how good the “up to 20% off airfares” is that comes as part of this cards benefits.

Looking at United Airlines flights from San Francisco to Hawaii. First Class tickets are in the region of £3800 for two returns. Would this card give some discount via Amex Travel?

This is a benefit that usually only exists in name – it probably wouldn’t be a good reason to take the card out as the discounts are few and far between, and usually cost more than booking direct.

That being said, if you share your exact flight itinerary (date and airport code), I’m sure someone would be kind enough to check it on their Amex portal for you

The only way to know if IAP gives a useful discount is to login and do a search, sometimes there can be a good rate, but it’s not guaranteed.

If you post exact details of what you’re after, maybe someone can do a check.

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like it’s not worth taking the benefit into my calculations as to whether the card is worth the fee.
If only they were doing the 80000 bonus points on personal and not just the business version.

If someone was able to check these flights it would be greatly appreciated.

Assume they were the non refundable version?

Actually might be cheaper direct with United if they were.

Very annoying that the US version of the Platinum card looks so much better value than the UK version and the sign up bonus on it is currently 125000.

There are no IAP fares on those dates with any of the airlines Amex show.

Staying on United you could save 400+ GBP with different flight times.
