Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Platinum / Delta Sky Club lounge access

Hi all, we are new Platinum card members and are looking forward to checking out the new Centurian Lounge @ LHR T3.

As a part of this trip we are flying with VA to MIA and just wanted to clarify access to the Delta Sky Club Lounge @ MIA’s South Terminal. I understand that you need to be a Platinum Card holder and hold a Delta boarding pass (any class / same day travel) with Virgin being a Delta partner do you think we will be able to gain access with the Platinum Card + VA Boarding pass?

    Thank you all.

Not sure re VA but just to say you both need a physical Plat card each (doesn’t matter if one is a supplementary). We had to physically tap each of our plat card at salt lake city.

We were flying economy with delta, so can confirm any class that day.

    According to T~P~G:

    ‘along with a same-day ticket on a Delta-operated flight or Delta-marketed WestJet ticket starting with a 006 ticket number — you’re in!’

    google is your friend.

The Delta Sky Club access is covered here. Fat chance if flying on Virgin I’d say. https://www.delta.com/gb/en/delta-sky-club/house-rules

It seems you can gain entry with any of Delta’s partner airlines including VA

    • Delta Sky Club Members* can only use the Club in conjunction with same-day ticketed air travel on Delta or its partner airlines.

AeroMexico / Air France / China Eastern / KLM / Korean Air / Latam / Virgin Atlantic

Are you a subscriber to Delta Sky Club and thus a member?

If you’re flying business class with Virgin, then you will be directed to use the Latam Miami lounge.

Earlier this year I accessed the Delta Sky Club in LAX using my Platinum card while flying with Virgin. I had an internal connecting flight with one of Delta’s short-haul partners on a Virgin flight code, though, so that might have made a difference. Under ‘Admittance’, the Sky Club rules do say, ‘Delta Sky Club Members can only use the Club in conjunction with same-day ticketed air travel on Delta or its partner airlines’, and Virgin is a partner.

I was so uncertain that I’d be allowed in to the lounge that I left my family downstairs while I went off to argue with the very un-dragon-like lounge dragon. The lounge was pretty decent to be fair, and certainly much better then American’s sorry affairs.

No, not flying business on this occasion but according to the AMEX Platinum site you can gain access if you are a Platinum card member and hold a valid Delta ticket for any class (or as it turns out a Delta partner)

This is the relevant part of the access rules, which seem to confirm that a VS ticket does not give access –

‘Customers with select Platinum Cards and Centurion Cards from American Express may access Delta Sky Club locations when traveling on a same-day ticket on a Delta-operated (Delta or Delta Connection) or Delta-marketed flight operated by WestJet (006 ticket number). The Platinum or Centurion Card Member must present his or her valid American Express Credit Card and same-day corresponding airline ticket to Club ambassador. Access is non-transferable and can only be used by the Card Member. Platinum and Centurion American Express Card Members may enter the club with up to two guests for an additional fee.

Guests of Platinum and Centurion American Express Card Members must be traveling on Delta-operated or Delta-marketed flight operated by WestJet (006 ticket number) to access the Club.’

Of course, ignorance on the part of reception staff may allow access, so it could be worth a go.

Just reading about the access changes coming in 2025 to Delta Sky Clubs, including Amex Plat access. Plat cardholders limited to 6 visits per year.

I know that the Centurion entry restrictions were limited to US-issued Plat cards. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to whether this Sky Club access limitation will similarly apply only to US-issued Plat cards?

I guess it all depends on whether the Delta loung agent swipes the Plat card or just looks at it. If swiping, then presumably a UK-issued Plat wouldn’t show a limit on visits, whilst a US-issued one would show remaining visits.

They’ll have to do something more than look at it if they’re tracking visit numbers. Still who knows whether computer will say no or not – 2025 problem !

2024 problem; the hardcore amongst us will be booking trips for early 2025 come January 2024! 🤣 Things like this have to be factored in.

did anyone figure out if the Delta changes – specifically the Basic Economy exclusion – are going to apply UK Plat holders? The UK Amex website hasn’t been updated, while the Delta website makes broad claims about all “Platinum Card members”.
