Hello, I’m planning to take out an AMEX Gold card but I’m wondering if the current sign up bonus of 20,000 points is a good deal in relative terms? I’ve heard that there are regular promotions and the bonus gets boosted so I don’t want to get it now and then see in a month that there’s a promo for more points.
I do need to get the card in the next month or 2 ideally to time with some big purchases but I can afford to wait a bit.
On the other hand, if 20k is already a great deal maybe I should just go ahead?

I think the last offer was only 25K MR points and then 5K more if you kept the account open until the 15th month. Previously, there’s been offers for 30-40K MR points, and these didn’t require you to wait.
A referral would probably get you closer to the 25K MR points right now. Unless you’ve got spendings that are firm on the timeline, you could just wait until the current offers for the business cards run out and see if the Gold card’s on the next cycle. The current offers end April 9th.
