Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

    Hi Everyone,

The avios redemption for MCO, SAN and LAX are all the same. Looking online from what I can gather zone 6 is 4001-5500 miles. I can’t seem to find a definitive answer as to whether all 3 are in the same zone as apparently you can only change an Amex companion voucher within the zone. I could cancel and rebook an open jaw no prob but I would lose my outbound flight and there’s no availability anywhere around it.

    TIA

@MrsFresh – I believe that stipulation ceased to apply quite a few years ago. I’m not sure it was ever written down anywhere, but it was applied. If you get an agent who tells you this, you may need to call again.

BA doesn’t publish a redemption chart with zones on it anymore, although it’s clear that’s still how it works underneath.

Is it really right you can’t amend the inbound leg to a different zone? I’m aware the restriction exists once the outbound has been flown, but not aware of it being an issue before that.

However, if the Avios requirement is the same then it would fall within the same zone anyway as that’s how the redemption chart used to work.

I believed it to be you can make a fresh booking open jaw no issue but if you are trying to amend it had to be in the same zone. However I just spoke to an agent who said the change is possible and the zone restriction has been dropped also. I haven’t yet tried to complete the change but that’s the info I’ve just been given.

Award Zones ? That goes back a bit in time….if only it were still that simple.
