    I’m curious if anyone here has taken out one of the subscription packages and, if so, what’s your use case for it?

    A HFP article was published when it launched. I haven’t taken it up as we have plenty of Avios / other convertible points. For me the issues that I have with it are:

    *The monthly subscriptions are priced above my maximum of 1p/Avios;
    *The yearly subscriptions come with a risk that rule changes / devaluation occurs and you’re stuck with continue to buy to the end of the term.

    If you need to buy Avios for future plans there are periodic opportunities that come up to effectively do so at a lower rate, e.g. the Economist offer that Rhys has reported on today to get 15,000 for £129 (plus a years digital subscription) – albeit that you’d have to do a number such offers to get to a sizable redemption just by those alone.

    If you’re comfortable with the risk one possible use case is to obtain sufficient to redeem at the higher Avios levels with a 2for1 in CW. E.g. 60K Avios would save two people £1K on a off-peak return redemption to New York vs the ‘old’ rate. Seven months on the ‘Explorer’ annual subscription (£899) would get you almost enough to make that up, saving £100 at that point and gaining you an additional 40K Avios throughout the remainder of the subscription year for no further cost. You just have to accept that if things change in those seven months it may not work out as you planned.

    Yes – I subscribe to the 200k package. I fly to HKG every year, and that costs 200k Avios + £550 on an Off-Peak CW redemption, so that would technically cost the £1789 (for the subscription) + £550 = £2339, which is quite a fair amount cheaper than buying with cash for the equivalent flights. If combined with Amex/Barclays vouchers, then that would be even more of a bargain.

    I don’t spend enough to get 200k Avios every year through credit cards, which makes this an attractive option.

    As the post above mentions, there’s always a risk of devaluation, but the amount of money I’ll have saved with this subscription justifies it, in my case.

    Yes – I subscribe to the 200k package.

    Is it billed by BA? Or a third party like points.com?

    Wondering if it would trigger BA bonus if paid on BAPP.

    Could also be useful for people struggling to hit a sign up bonus.

    It shows up on my bank statement as “Avios Group Agl Limi”
