Have BA stopped you receiving avios and tier points on flights made using a companion voucher? (you used to get both, but checking my account on a booking earlier this year I have had zero.
If so, moving up tiers is purely for cash bookings.

What has happened a few times in recent years is folks having rebooked flights due to COVID and these earned Avios / TP, presumably due to the rebooking process and class of booking applied to the new flight. Of course, mistakes also sometimes slip through due to IT issues on regular reward bookings. I’ve had both happen and took it as a bonus every time.
If it happens, result. If it doesn’t, you haven’t lost anything.
If you got them then it’s an error and you should keep mum.
