I booked a BA redemption return leg today (HND > LHR) and was offered the following Avios + Cash options:
1) 100k Avios + £205.20
2) 84k Avios + £280.20
3) 75k Avios + £315.20
4) 66k Avios + £480.20
5) 54k Avios + £790.20
6) 37.5k Avios + £1000.20
I opted for option 3, but when progressing to the payment page the cash element had increased to £385. I haven’t experienced this before as normally what’s shown on the ‘more pricing options’ page is reflected in the final total.
Maybe I’ve missed the memo on this, but has anyone else experienced this? Is it simply that BA has yet to update the pricing option page to reflect RFS pricing on some routes?
If you are seeing those options then that is the RFS pricing
Can’t explain the change when you move from that page to the next though.
Do all of the options change price when you go to the final page?
Yep, all the prices change as follows after clicking the continue button:-
100000 Avios + £ 275.00
84000 Avios + £ 350.00
75000 Avios + £ 385.00
66000 Avios + £ 550.00
54000 Avios + £ 860.00
37500 Avios + £ 1,070.00
I cannot comment on which price is “correct” as all these fees are just invented by BA.
Were I you, I would screenshot the first set of prices, pay the 75K and incorrect fees, and write a complaint.
If you are UK based, I have no idea if your complaint would succeed, and if it didn’t, what legal remedy you might have.
I believe in the US where the price has changed mid-way through a transaction complainants have recovered the difference between the “advertised” and final price.
Given the low sum (£60) I wouldn’t be going to court over this, but I would certainly complain.
This has happened to me several times and I did query with CS a while back, they gave me some nonsense about ‘final tax calculations’ but I didn’t bother following up as they were pretty small differences.
Well I’ve experienced this intermittently over the years, both ways, but impossible to say how long haul RFS has affected it.
I had it last year when I was charged ~1k/pp (return) for a reward flight to vegas. I finally got a £294 refund. Apparently around that time for 1-2 months, redemptions in I class (using a new style premium voucher) had additional taxes added in error.
I also booked HND->LHR in club yesterday and was charged £385/pp. I’ve never seen it show for £315.20 though..
