Forums Payment cards American Express BA Amex questions, juggling two family accounts

Hi, me and my wife both have BA Premium Plus Amex cards and pre covid we got good use out of them and the annual companion vouchers we both received. Since covid this has been hard work and I am now looking at options and have some questions that I would be grateful for answers/guidance on.

I am considering cancelling my wife’s card. She is very close to getting a further companion voucher and we paid the annual £250 fee around 4 months ago. If I cancel after receiving the voucher do Amex process a pro rata refund of the fee? And presumably the terms of the voucher remain the same once posted to the BA exec club account?

If I do cancel and leave her spending on just my card for a while- is there a time limit during which we can’t re- apply for my wife should travel conditions change which would allow us to both get better use and value from two PP cards at the £500 annual combined fee?

Is there a point that she could re-apply and receive introductory bonuses? or is it the case that once a member there are no further intro bonuses or offers- which I would understand.

I am not trying to play BA/Amex here I am simply trying to organise the cards and spending better so that we can actually get value from the companion vouchers and justify the annual fees. cheers

You keep the companion voucher once it’s in your BA account and yes you will get the card fee refunded pro-rata when you cancel. Wait till any avios are transferred to BAEC first though.
Sign up bonus rules are rather complicated now – it’s a minimum 2 year wait between applications and you can’t have held another avios earning card to get the BAPP during that time. It’s different for the free card and MR cards – you need to read the detailed HFP article on this a few times to get your head round it!

Many thanks NorthernLass- I forgot about the posting of Avios so will need to manage that aspect too. cheers
