Think pro rata is irrelevant now, as applications state new t and c. Do hold on to the card. Complete your 10k spend before the year ends in FEB. Then drawer it, as Rob say. Start your next 10k spend to coincide when you might need your next 241.
Hey all, so I’m on the Blue card and just noticed I’ve spent £10.5k. Card anniversary 20th Dec.
If I upgrade to Black will it trigger the companion voucher right away because I’ve fulfilled the 10k point? Or will it make me start again?
Keen to book (ideally Club World) long-haul flights with the voucher ASAP so any advice would be very appreciatedThat’s what has happened historically, though sometimes there’s a glitch and you only get the 12-month voucher which takes a call to either BA or Amex to sort out. Also don’t forget the upgrade isn’t guaranteed.
Is the upgrade still available?
I tried to do the upgrade online a few weeks back but had the following response:
We’re sorry. You do not have a card eligible for this offer.
I called the number listed below that response, and a CSA advised me to try again on the 14th. I’m a few hundred off triggering the companion voucher and would like to switch, if possible, before hitting that amount.

It’s never been guaranteed and in general they have got a bit tougher on fee dodgers. If you can’t do it online, you will need to call and ask. Your BAPP will be subject to the new fee and terms.

Im in this exact scenario – did you get the 2 year voucher when you upgraded? Or has anyone else got first hand experience please? Thanks!

I’m in a similar situation, but I’ve just received my BA Amex Blue voucher and I’m looking at upgrading to BAPP. I called Cs and they told me I don’t have an upgrade offer available, but that I should apply online.
If I do, 2 questions:
1. Will my current over £10000 spend count towards my BAPP voucher qualifying spend?
2. How will I be affected by the upcoming qualifying spend increases? That’s what has happened historically, though sometimes there’s a glitch and you only get the 12-month voucher which takes a call to either BA or Amex to sort out. Also don’t forget the upgrade isn’t guaranteed.

If that is correct, then upgrading now, will be of no benefit. Once you have received your voucher, that is it for this card year. You can’t upgrade and then spend another £2k (£5k) and get another voucher. That’s what has happened historically, though sometimes there’s a glitch and you only get the 12-month voucher which takes a call to either BA or Amex to sort out. I want the PP voucher, so will upgrade the card, but a bit miffed I can’t get any additional bonuses 🙁
