Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Business Class downgrade to Premium Economy

I was downgraded with my husband and requested reimbursement – Premium economy to economy using a companion card on a Grand Caymen flight in January. I followerd advice and requested a reimbursement. After an argument, I have been sent £270 plus 137, 000 avios less various adjustments leaving under 100,000. On the same day, my account also showed a flight to New York (business)at a cost of 111,000. We did not book this, we have been told that it does not exist but is a further “adjustment” and the service adviser would not give us any method of disputing this – we now have less avios that we started with. HELP PLEASE

This seems to be a newish ploy by BA and it’s quite unhelpful of them to mix cash/Avios when those don’t relate to the original payments. If I were you, I would set out the correct calculation for what you are owed in Avios and cash in a table, per person in one column and total in the next. Below that put the various sum(s) in Avios and cash that BA has paid/offered to pay and calculate the shortfall. Reply to the offer with this table saying that there was an error in the original offer that wasn’t in accordance with the Mennens formula and that additionally, the original sum offered has been cancelled out by an erroneous debit charge of 111k Avios on x date. Tell them what the resulting sum you require them to pay within 14 days failing which you will escalate to MCOL/CEDR although that shouldn’t be a necessary step for a simple calculation in accordance with Article 10
