Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA cancelled flight, alternate is to diff airport – what are my options?

Ba cancelled my flight for tomorrow and have put me on one to lcy that departs at the same time, am I able to insist on a flight to lhr (with duty of care if ba cant give me a flight tomorrow) or are ba allowed to do that swap as both airports are in lon?

If I were to take that flight, whats the easiest way to get to lhr from lcy in the morning and presumably ba have to pay costs?

BA can reroute to different airports in the same city area but is explicitly required to cover the cost of getting from one to the other, although it is not specified whether that covers more than public transport.

Would they be required to book my on a differernt airline that leaves around the same time or is that not applicable cos of the same city reroute?

Also is there a way I can find the reason for the cancellation? Ams to lhr.

These rules are designed to be flexible so there isn’t a definitive answer to your question unfortunately. In essence, by rerouting you on a flight at the same time albeit to a different airport (and paying for the transfer) that covers BA’s obligations so it would be difficult to get reimbursed for the flight to LHR on a different airline if you went and bought a ticket and I doubt BA will rebook you voluntarily on another presumably non OW airline. The likelihood is that the other airline is also probably also very busy/fully booked with rebooked passengers. It’s far from ideal I know, but when weather is affecting so many flights/passengers, getting a flight at a similar time is already a result, so make the most of your last evening wherever you are!

Not sure about your rights etc so will leave that to others, but even if BA paid for a taxi LCY-LHR I would still take the Elizabeth Line from Custom House. It is one train, 59 minutes and very straightforward. A car journey could take 2h easy with rush hour traffic, plus the M25 is unpredictable. You can get the bus from LCY to Custom House or a taxi etc. but I have found bus the quickest.

You need to be careful on insisting on a flight to LHR in a couple of days as they won’t necessarily pay for a hotel etc because it is your choice to delay your flight that long.

easiest and quickest trips between LCY and LHR would be

    1. Bus to Custom House then Lizzie Line (I think it’s the 474 but check the TFL journey planner)
    2. DLR to Canary Wharf then Lizzie Line

@slidey there has been fog at LHR almost all day and forecast to continue until the morning, halving the number of landings permitted by ATC which obviously has a big knock on effect on other flights that were expected to be operated by aircraft that can’t land.
