Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club BA Gold w hand luggage fare + paying for bag

  • 10 posts

If a BA Gold member has a hand luggage only fare, but then pays for 1 additional bag, would that entitle them to another checked bag as they’re now on a fare with one checked bag? Or would it just be the one bag as the Gold benefit doesn’t apply for when the luggage allowance is not part of the original ticket?

A simple Google search would have given you the answer to that: ‘An additional free checked bag in any travel class for everyone on your booking, except on hand-baggage-only (Basic) fares’

You’re paying for an additional bag, not changing the ticket type to include a baggage allowance.

    Hello @ashic

    A worked example:

Basic/HBO fare = one small carry on bag + one cabin hand luggage, irrespective of BA status held.

Pay the extra, and get your basic HBO fare allowance, plus one paid-for checked luggage (or as many as paid for and as BA allows).

BA additional luggage benefits do not apply for BA status holders travelling on BA basic fares. Search for “Gold” on the BA website (linked above) for more information.
