Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club BA Holidays – not using one night of hotel

  • sully301 17 posts

does anyone know what will happen if we don’t check into a hotel room booked as part of a package with BA?

is the best thing to check in and just tell the hotel you may not sleep there?

    Nothing will happen.

    Plans change etc

Are you possibly talking about the double TPs offer?

If it was me I’d go to checkin if possible, I wouldnt mention about sleeping there or not? if it was at the beginning of stay and I couldn’t make it (as decided to stay at airport hotel etc) I would give hotel a call and get them to check you in and say you’ll be in tomorrow etc.

it’s not double points as only one night at airport. i was going to check in ans just not sleep there but someone said what if there was a fire – think i may be over thinking it!

Overthinking it. Not as if you have a curfew and have to be tucked up in bed by 11pm. Whether you’re partying until 6am or checking in for a flight at 4am the hotel doesn’t care (well maybe they do in North Korea but otherwise…)

Definitely agree it makes sense to at least call – say you’re stuck in traffic or whatever so won’t get there in time to make it worthwhile going to bed.

I book sometimes flight and one night hotel to make it into a holiday and just pay a deposit with BAH. Nothing will happen if you don’t book at the hotel.

Phone a local domestic abuse / homeless charity and see if they have any use for the room for the night.

Nice thought but it doesn’t work like that.

I would always find a use for one night in a hotel – if you’re not bothered about the double TPs it doesn’t even have to be during the same trip that the flights relate to!

it does, that’s the whole point of a package

@sully301 If that is a reference to the hotel outside the flight dates then @NorthernLass is correct. The double tier points offer requires the hotel (or car) to be between the flights, but if you are just booking a throwaway night in order to make use of other BAH benefits then it can be at any time, so you can make use of it whenever and wherever you choose.

Well yes, I don’t know why you’d think I wasn’t speaking from experience! I’ve had hotel and car hire bookings outside the flight dates I’ve booked. Also thrown in odd hotel nights in various locations so as to benefit from the package terms. I don’t know if it’s an IT glitch but BAH’s are incredibly flexible.

I did not realise that, so I’m guessing the consensus is nothing will happen to my flights if I don’t turn up. Thanks

BA Holidays key advantage is being able to lock in prices with a low deposit and hence not have to pay the balance until close to departure. This is exactly the same benefit offered by most travel agents, except the hotel tends to be cheaper than BA Holidays. BA holidays car hire packages are usually excellent value, so I still use these despite having access to net hotel rates. I then book the hotel myself.

How does one book a hotel at a location different to the one you’re flying to yet still forming a ‘package’ for BAH purposes and benefiting from the low deposit? Can you book a return flight to, say New York, then 1 night at a hotel at Heathrow a month after your return date and it’s still a BAH package?
