Hello – Our BA flight back home to London in December has been cancelled and they’ve put us on the only other BA inbound flight, however it’s at 1.45am.
It was booked using a companion voucher.
I assume not, but can I ask them to put me on the Qatar flight at a more sensible time? Don’t fancy flying at that time with a 6 year old, or do we have no choice.
Thank you.
What was the previous flight time? If you tell us the full circumstances you’ll get more specific advice.
You can absolutely ask, and as it’s a cancellation you are on strong ground if BA’s alternative causes you some inconvenience. The wording of the legislation says you should be re-routed at your “earliest convenience”. Using avios/voucher has no bearing on your rights.
If they play hard ball, you may be able to look into booking your own alternative, however do make sure you read all the threads and advice on here about how to go about this and whether a claim would succeed.
Thank you for your response!
BA had 2 inbound flights daily 7am and 1.45am. They have now cancelled all their 7am flights. So they have moved us to the other flight.
f we have to, then fine….but a hassle with a 6 year old!
Qatar have 8 flights on the same day, but we booked with voucher and points.
Again, when it comes to cancellations you have exactly the same rights as someone who paid cash. Don’t let BA tell you otherwise and don’t accept any alternative flight until you’re happy with it.
If you have a look at the “delays and cancellations” section here, there is loads of helpful information.
Called BA – As there is plenty of Avios availability on Qatar, they can move us. Although, annoyingly, they can’t do seat choice on that leg and it needs to be done via Qatar.
Am glad you were able to change the flight but BA is talking BS saying they could only move you to Qatar because of Avios availability. That only applies if your original flight was still operating and you wanted to make a voluntary change. Your original flight was cancelled so it didn’t need Avios availability to change it.
And if it was still operating you wouldn’t have been able to move to Qatar as the 2-4-1 ordinarily requires BA IB or EI metal
