-
I’ve just come back from a booking with a companion voucher reward flight that I shouldn’t have been able to book, and received TP’s for it as well. Booking was outbound LHR-BLQ, return ATH-LHR. Who knew that Bologna to Athens was 70 miles further than London to Bologna. However, BA priced the booking and ticketed it with a 241 voucher.
In MMB the flights showed as earning 0 Avios but 120 TPs for the trip. I didnt expect these to post, but both flights posted with 0 Avios and the correct TPs for the flights.
BA’s IT really is getting so bad that it’s starting to be good!
That sounds as though it wasn’t the IT but a careless phone agent?!!
Little things like this happen from time to time in my experience. The rule is you don’t mention it!! There’s nothing to see here lol

I don’t think that the agent has any say on this, can they override the ticketing rules?

It’s not a question of the agent overriding the fare rules, it’s just incompetence. One of the reasons open jaw Avios bookings can’t be made online is the manual calculation/ticketing and the agent obviously didn’t think to check the distances and also didn’t correctly issue and endorse the ticket as a reward one ineligible for TP/Avios.

Exactly that!
One agent once told me you can book a further distance on the route back. I specifically thought you couldn’t, as that’s what the FAQs generally say. Unsure as I didn’t put it into practice

Was via gold line a year ago with new BAPP voucherI think you misunderstood. The agent is correct. For an open jaw the geographic distance between your original landing airport and your new departure airport (ie the non flight sector) must be SHORTER than both of the two flights.
So your flights shouldn’t have been possible to be booked as an open jaw as the distance between BLQ and ATH isn’t shorter than LHR to BLQ.
