BA don’t fly to MEL, and if you succeed in getting SYD with avios you will appreciate whichever seat you get 😂

For sure its tough, managed it only once and it was for my wife not me – i never went!

(MEL i meant with a domestic transfer on QF from Syd etc.)

My other half and I lucked out and got MAN-SYD CW return on a companion voucher last summer. Happened to search it while I was in pre-redundancy limbo in October and did a comedy double-take when the availability came up.

TBH, while we were pretty disappointed to get the older style, it really wasn’t bad. If anything, we both felt that it was a comfier bed than the CS we’d had LHR-HKG the summer before. The lower privacy and lack of storage were annoying, but I can’t complain about not getting a good night’s sleep.

Or about the Bloody Mary I got served with breakfast. Delicious!

We’re off to MEX this summer. Guess it’ll be CW again as there’s no chance they’ll get round to the 787-9s by then.

There’s often F availability for MEX if you keep a lookout! It’s a great way to pass 12 hours 😊

Well, you got me dreaming there! And searching, more to the point…

Annoyingly, lots of single F seats on our possible dates, but there was one possible pair MEX-LHR (we’d have to slum it economy on the LHR-MAN leg).

Unfortunately J out / F back (with the magic voucher) works out £800 more than J/J. Add the £70 change fee and that’s just higher than we’re willing to go given that the flight dates are a bit worse for us. Damn.

Pity. F/F works out only slightly pricier than J/F, which we could probably justify. Assuming that the voucher price is double the single fare, as usual.

Thanks for the heads-up though. And apologies for hijacking the thread.

Sorry for resurrecting a very dead thread, and taking it off-topic, but I just wanted to say a belated thank you for that heads-up. I kept an eye out for F availability MAN-LHR-MEX and, eventually, some appeared! £500 each extra over J (including change fees) but 10k Avios less which softens the blow a bit.

For our first time living the high life (we’ve got six whole hours to hang out in the Concorde Room, “unfortunately”), and upgrading from the old CW seats, we decided it’s worth it. We might never get the chance again.

Definitely worth it – happy to help and I hope you have an amazing time!

I did a bit of a trip report after our Mexican adventure last December, it might be helpful with stuff like getting an Uber when you arrive and that sort of thing.

Yeah, that’s dangerous 😏 They used to have sleep pods but I think they have been removed – but plenty of time for a shower. Not sure what the Champers options are now the LPGS has been discontinued.

For some reason my recollection of what they were serving last November is rather hazy …

Flyertalk will have the info, and current menus as well, however.

*It’s coming back to me now. I had the rather nice “Marmalade” breakfast cocktail with my Eggs Royale, and didn’t actually have any champers as I was pacing myself for the 12 hour flight in F! But I can’t remember what they were serving on board, either 🤦🏻‍♀️
