Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club BA TATL from Gatwick, HBO, visa check?

  • 1,117 posts

    Hi

So we’re off to Florida soon, ex Gatwick and hand baggage only. I know from T5 you have to get the visa check done. Is it the same at Gatwick or will they just sort that at the gate?

    Thanks

I honestly can’t remember, but if it is an ESTA it is linked to your passport I think the API will take care of it.

Can’t see why it’s not done automatically via your passport – A visa or ESTA has no value on paper if it’s been cancelled!

We’ve done a couple of US city breaks HBO, there were no checks apart from the usual passport scan on boarding.

I just know that at T5 you used to have to drop by a desk and get the visa check done if HBO otherwise you couldn’t get through the e-gates to security. I guess we might be alerted to this at OLCI. Regardless, i’ll post back.

    Thanks!

I’m very impressed you’re HBO, how long is the trip?!

Ironically, the last 2 times we’ve flown with checked luggage, to IAD, one of us has had the SSSS!

If you manage to get a boarding pass in the app (or website) you can go straight to the gate

Generally physical visa checks are only needed when you have a physical visa so a BP won’t be issued, though once in a while BA randomly wants to verify your passport exists too.

Two weeks. I feel I have taught my family well 😎 (we also have a washer & dryer in the apartment for the first six nights).
