I have just seen that my flight Thursday evening to hongkong is already showing a 1 hour 15 minute delay, is that normal so far ahead?

its unlikely I’ll make my 3 hour transfer window if the delay is any greater than this, not sure if I should take action now

I’d try not to worry at this point, I’ve seen flights gain back delays of more before departure. Or they may do an aircraft swap if something is going on with the currently allocated plane.

Is your transfer on the same ticket? If so you should be protected for any knock on impacts

Unfortunately not, its a different airline so I need time to clear immigration and check back in. If there isn’t 2 hours on the ground I dont think its worth attempting

The current aircraft allocated looks like it’d be that late unless it can make up some time

    https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/g-zbko

They may swap the aircraft in the meantime though as the aircraft has a long layover in HKG they won’t be under massive pressure to do so

If you had 1hr 45mins I’d say you’d make it if you keep moving and as long as immigration isn’t backed up (in which case you’d need to try queue jump, quite feasible there I’d say if you show your onward booking)

Interested in how you know the allocation? I know I often check on the day on Flight Radar but does it show aircraft registration this far in advance or did you check via other means?

BA flight status is not showing a delay in flight status on the app

So either the scheduled plane has caught up on an existing delay or a different plane has been swapped in

Just flightradar – it usually shows BA a couple of days out

Looks like there was an aircraft swap to https://www.flightradar24.com/data/aircraft/g-zbkh which lands back this afternoon. So fingers crossed all goes well for you!

There are signs in HKG advertising that they resumed the service where they will retrieve your checked bag so you don’t have to go through immigration. So even if you can’t get a mobile BP beforehand, worth trying at the airside transfer desks

They swapped the plane out and normal timings have resumed

I am going to check the Transfer desk somebody mentioned this possibility to me, but it was disputed so I am not banking on it

Is this the flight which has just turned back to Heathrow after 3 hours in? I hope you have some kind of travel insurance to cover the connecting flight!

Ouch. At least the pax will get back to Heathrow at a “normal” arrival time instead of being abandoned to find their own hotel at midnight.

Really not a good cancellation as it Chinese New Years Eve today. Hopefully rerouting options get people there to enjoy some of the festivities

Report from a passenger over on FlyerTalk.

“Well, I was on this flight, nothing out of the ordinary until we were above turkey, where there were some strong turbulence. No communication from the cockpit or crew at 1am, but did notice the flight map getting turned off and the arrival time being significantly earlier which I thought was weird. First communication was an hour before landing when we were above the netherlands/germany, captain said due to a mechanical issue, they did not have enough fuel to continue on to HK due to increased fuel burn and if continued would have to divert to an airport in china. So they decided to go back to LHR.”
