Forums Payment cards American Express BAPP pro-rata fee refund

Can I please check that the BAPP pro rata fee refund is still available? I know there was talk of this being stopped but I believe this was cancelled and hasn’t been any comms about it being brought in again yet?

Have built up a significant balance of Avios and a companion voucher and noticed my renewal was charged a month ago so strongly considering cancelling or downgrading to the free card if I can do so and get at least a prorata refund.

Presume also there’s been no change and that 241 vouchers can’t be withdrawn after they’ve been issued even if you cancel the card?

Make sure you ask for a retention bonus in the chat before you cancel, if you do decide to cancel. You will still get the pro-rata refund. You only need an Amex (any) to book with a 2-4-1, I also asked for clarity on this recently because I’m nervous about losing the voucher too!

I received a pro-rata refund when I downgraded to the free BA Amex in July. I had literally one day left on my card anniversary and they still refunded me 67 pence (one day’s worth)!

Your 241 won’t be withdrawn, but any booking you make with it will need to be done with an Amex card (any card belong to anyone – so your free card will be fine).

Just bear in mind that if you want to earn another 241 voucher that’s valid in Business/First bookings and for 2 years, you’ll need to re-upgrade to the BAPP again. From what I’ve learned, Amex may be reluctant to do this if you specifically call to request, many have been denied it as an option; but apparently there is a link where you can just do it automatically (https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/benefits/upgrade/ba-premium-plus-credit-card/). I will probably do this just before I earn my next voucher.

    Thanks Both.

I did ask for a retention but unfortunately was offered the £50 credit for hitting the 15k spend in 6 months which just isn’t worth it for me currently. Wife has almost hit the 2 year mark without her card so will likely downgrade to the free BA card temporarily so I’m still able to book as needed with the companion voucher I have and then cancel once she can jump on the next 60k sign up offer with BA (unfortunately the one active now is a little too soon).
