I just made a booking for 1 x Adult and 2 x Children – London to Valencia (One Way) – Club World.
I had 2 x Barclays Upgrade Voucher in my account.
When selecting to use the vouchers it forced me to select both. But then only in effect used 1 and a half as all 3 tickets were billed for the reduced Avios.
(Likewise we did a booking on my wife’s account for 1 x Adult and 1 x Child – and it only needed 1 voucher to reduce the avios cost of the 2 x one way tickets).
Not the end of the world – but sounds wrong? Is this a known quirk and if so is it worth even calling BA? I suspect not…
It isn’t a quirk. There isn’t really the concept of half a Barclays voucher.
It’s tough when you have three kids and one adult as you can’t send a kid by themselves (unless from memory, they are 14+) so it’s just one of these awkward situations where it is tricky to get the max value from the vouchers.
Put it another way, what would you like to achieve? If you wanted to only use two vouchers and save the other then you should have booked yourself with all three kids and had your wife book herself separately without a voucher.
If your wife is anything like mine, she might even be delighted to slum it in economy leaving you in Club with the three kids!
Good point re: the doing 1 booking of 4 people and the other of 1.
Although to be a bit more precise it is actually further complicated by the vouchers we have in that we both have 2 vouchers each – 1 expiring next year (needs using up) and 1 the year after (possible for these ones we may have a different opportunity to use for long haul).
So… we in effect had 1 voucher from each account that needed using. Which scuppers your two bookings of 4 and 1 in this particular case.
To answer your question on what i would have liked to achieve – it’d been nice if the BA system would allow the booking of 3 people to only use the 1 voucher that is expiring next year – rather then force me to use the one that i don’t really want to use – and then to also short change you a bit with it.
First world problems eh 🙂
Separate bookings is the option for odd number of people travelling. Not great but hey it is odd ! 🙂
Well the hero’s solution (assuming you are flying back) would have been for your wife to book a return for herself in Club Europe with her expiring voucher; you to book a return for your wife in Club Europe using your expiring voucher; and you to travel in economy with your three children. I assume you love them so much, the prospect of such a travel arrangement wouldn’t fill you with dread.
Afterwards you could then post on here about the experience as a sort of therapy and hope that readers are kind in their comments.
Edit – as per above comment, depending an age of children, separate bookings are not possible.
