Forums Other Destination advice Best card for USA atm withdrawals

What’s the best card to withdraw ATM cash from US (am a uk based traveller).

    Curve metal
    Virgin
    BC Avios basic
    Revolut
    Other

And to use with merchants, restaurants, hotels, etc.

I’ve excluded amex from both as they have high fx fees.

A Chase account is good as you won’t get charged any fees at all to use their ATMs and it’s 1% back on spending. Otherwise Revolut or Curve – I believe BC isn’t charging cash advance fees on these transactions but someone else will confirm I’m sure. Otherwise you could route it to a debit card. You still may get charged ATM fees by the provider locally

It’s hard to avoid ATM fees in a lot of places these days, I try to just avoid ATMs. Check re charges for Curve & Revolut at weekends as well.

Yes – if I’ve wanted / needed cash for something I’ve been taking pounds and changing locally last few years in most places unless I know there is a fee free option. In places like Thailand the rates you get are as good if not better than interbank anyway if you shop around a little/avoid the airport. Even in Lanzarote last year it wasn’t bad and avoided the ~€5 an ATM will charge

I have a Wise account – works well with minimal costs and good FX rates.

As mentioned above, I agree, the new UK app based Chase account is excellent and you can withdraw cash for free from Chase bank cash machines. They also have a pretty high instant access savings rate, although not the highest.
