Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Booking return reward flight with companion voucher

  • 3 posts

    Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster…

I’m looking to use my BA Companion Voucher on reward flights to Mauritius in September 2024, ideally in Business or Premium Economy. I understand that the best way to secure seats is to phone BA US at the stroke of midnight exactly 355 days in advance.

My question is what is the best way to do this when booking a return flight? Can I book my outbound flight on the day it goes on sale and then add my return flight to the same booking a week or so later when it goes on sale or, if I want to use the Companion Voucher, do I need to book outbound and return at the same time? The risk with the latter is obviously that the small number of reward seats released for the outbound may have gone.

These flights are for my honeymoon so I’m very keen to get it right and looking at availability to this destination this morning has got me nervous!

    Thanks

Book your outbound journey on the phone or the website as soon as you can. Use the voucher. Remember what options of avios + fees you chose (let’s say the second one of a list of 6-5 available).

When the inbound appears. Book it without the voucher (you will need the avios for that) and select the very same option (in this case the second one).

Call BA anytime and ask them to merge the two bookings. They will then refund the avios from the second booking (the cash portion remains unchanged).

This has been answered countless times but since it is your honeymoon I suppose we all want you to enjoy it!
