I’m booked to go to Israel on 26th October (2 business class seats) and for obvious reasons want to cancel. I’ve spoken to BA three times and they are holding passengers to the original ticket conditions which means that we lose £350 on one ticket and all the money (except taxes) on the other. I phoned Amex insurance and they want BA to put in writing how much BA are willing to refund on each ticket. I’ve asked for this and am still waiting on one ticket. BA are reacting really slowly and their first policy offered refunds up to today; their second policy iteration is offering refunds on flights until 18th October. Virgin on the other hand roughly a week ago are offering full refunds until virtually the end of October. I assume BA are protecting revenue and hoping passengers will claim on insurance so the airline can keep the money but I’m shocked that no one in BA can see from a PR point of view that this looks exceptionally mean and appears as if BA are taking advantage of the desperate situation in the Middle East. Drip feeding refunds when the Foreign Office has invalidated travel insurance anyway by recommending ‘essential travel only’ is in sharp contrast to Virgin whose policy looks far more customer friendly. I’m GFL and my partner has silver. Means nothing of course in crises.

The current BA policy (issued on 12 Oct) is offering refunds up to 22 October.
Why the urgency to cancel? Patience is required. BA will keep extending the date their policy applies to until the situation in Israel and Gaza is resolved.
I wish the conflict would be resolved today but unfortunately that’s not going to happen.

Could you signpost me to see that policy? The BA website only talks about flights cancelled until 18th October and makes no mention of 22nd November?
