Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Calculating tax for mixed IB / BA redemption

How can I calculate the correct amount of tax should be for a peak MAD-MIA / MIA-LHR redemption when paying 162,500 Avios?

Is it just the sum of the two one-ways? I’d like to make sure BA are not overcharging me.

Prior to the recent introduction of RFS on all flights, you could click into the surcharges to see the make-up – there would be a list of genuine taxes and fees, and then the airline’s YQ surcharge (made up number.)
However, even with that, the return price often wasn’t the same as 2 x one-way, e.g. flying one-way from the US attracted a greater surcharge than a return from the UK.

With the new RFS pricing (only on BA flights), the cash element no longer reflects the actual fees, which will make it even harder to tell if the figure is correct. In short, you’ll have to take the BA agent’s word for it, unless you strongly believe they’ve made an error, in which case it can be referred to a pricing team.

When I called to get the refund of half of the avios for the inbound, the agent quoted me something. I called back today as the charge on my card didn’t go through. I asked the agent to recalculate and I got a much cheaper price. She sent it to the pricing team now for confirmation. Let’s hope I get what she quoted today!

Ok. I’ve managed to price the exactly same itinerary on ITA and the figures (almost) fully match.

On Wednesday i tried booking MIA-MAD(IB) MAD-LHR(BA) LHR-MAN(BA) in club using a NEW BA 241 Agent came back with the figures 77500 avois plus TAXES of £1484.84 After getting him to recheck the taxes he came back with the same costing. I booked the MIA-MAD online using BA 241 and paid 42500 avios plus £210.80 for the two of us.
I will just have to sort out MAD to MAN later. The MAN-LHR-MAN CE using a 241 is £2 plus 35000 avios So no idea where the £1484.84 comes from.
