Ok here is the scenario:
OH is BAEC silver but I would like her to also credit some avios to her IB Plus account to “activate it”.
Can this be done:
– book an IB flight on BA using BAEC account to select seats and get into the lounge
– before flight change BAEC number to IB Plus instead
– Fly and get avios credited to IB Plus account
I know she will miss on the TP points but it is a Y flight so just loss of 5.
Yes it can. You don’t even need the status account to be attached to get into the lounge, just show the card. What I’m not sure about is how sticky the seats will be after removing the status FFP.
Does the ticket allow free seat selection at check in time? Some tickets don’t so when the status FFP is removed the seat may be changed, or you may be asked to pay
Just a tip for anyone that flies Star Alliance don’t ever try this if you have an LH (Lufthansa) flight on your booking, especially if you were trying to overwrite crediting Miles & More and credit to another program instead.
In theory, depending on departure airport facilities, you have up to 4 chances to change the airline program membership on your booking:
– online, with your airline’s booking site changing the Frequent Flyer membership number directly on your reservation. Or sometimes another airline’s site eg Finnair or Royal Jordanian for BA
– at checkin
– in the airline’s lounge
– possibly (esp in US) at the gate.
Despite changing the frequent flyer membership program on a few tickets away from LH’s Miles&More program on LH flights, and even having the boarding pass with a different airline’s program I’d changed to, I was never able to get the miles awarded to the correct program. They stayed attributed to Miles&More and one time I got nothing.
