Forums Payment cards American Express Cancellation of BA PP and move to Amex Platinum – What are the available options

    Hello folks,

I have recently taken BA PP card. I will be hitting my 15K spent in April to trigger companion voucher.

I have the following plan in mind and would like to know if this is possible:

    1. Complete my 15K spend and trigger the companion voucher in May. I intend to use the companion voucher sometime in 2026.
    2. Cancel the BA PP card and get pro rata refund for the annual fee.
    3. Apply for BA Platinum card and get the bonus points.

I would like to know If I don’t have any of the BA cards, can I redeem companion voucher while I am holding Amex Platinum card?

    Thanks.

Yes, any Amex will do to pay the surcharges. Rob covers all this in his articles about the companion voucher.

    Thanks.
Would i still be able to chose from business class seats for companion voucher even though I am not holding PP card? Just wanted to make sure that it is not mandatory to have PP card in order to use companion voucher on business class after the voucher has been issued.

Any Amex will do & there is no restriction. We have previously booked Business class with 2-4-1 using our daughter’s Amex as she was the only one that had an Amex at the time (she wasnt traveling).

I would wait till there is an Amex Plat uplift in bonus before switching. It will be a while as the last one just ended.

I also have a corporate Amex. So based on that, hopefully i should be able to use that as well.

Do they offer bonus frequently OR it is just once a year? Also, do you know if there is direct switch possible OR I have to close BA PP and apply for Amex Plat.

twice a year based on the last few years’ data points. It’s a sign up bonus so you have apply for the plat but no need to close the BaPP if you don’t want to. I tend to close my old card after my new one is opened just to make sure i always have an amex.
