Dear All
Due to unforeseen circumstances I may have to cancel my BA 2 for 1 flights to San Diego over Christmas.
I gather from previous queries of this nature that I should get my 2 for 1 voucher returned, plus my Avios points and that I will have to pay admin charges. My question is will I get the £900 tax back? My e-ticket states under endorsements:
*m*redemption/restrictions may apply/no cash refund/non endorsable
I suspect this means I am stuffed. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
Sincere thanks
Ian
Yes you get everything back except a £35 per person cancellation fee.
Excellent – thank you for your prompt response. Much appreciated.
Also note your voucher retains it’s original expiry date.
Thanks Guys
I’ve cancelled my trip and received my 200,000 Avios points back and my voucher (probably too early for the cash refund to my credit card).
I notice on my statement that along with the 200,000 Avios points credited, there are two debits of points, 5035 and 10,053. These match two credits of points received in April when I booked the flights, which I guess is fine. However, I wasn’t aware that I would receive points when making a booking using the 2 for 1 and I certainly didn’t make any other purchases i.e. book specific seats as a cost.
Any thoughts?
Sincere thanks
Ian
Are you in a HHA?
These could be the ‘payment’ to your account from the other members when you made the original booking and then paying them back when you cancelled.
@Ian are you in a Household account with two others with much smaller Avios balances?
Edit @BAflyerIHGstayer said the same thing a couple of minutes before me.
I am struggling to get a refund for an Avios flight where I’ve just noticed I have the endorsement *m*redemption/restrictions may apply/no cash refund/non endorsable.
This was a flight booked with 90,000 Avios and £450 taxes for 2 people using a Companion voucher.
The Avios has been redeposited, and I have my Companion Voucher back but BA are not forthcoming with a refund.
Has anyone actually received a refund where their ticket has been marked with this endorsement?
Any advice will be welcome please. Thank-you.
When did you cancel? You should have got the cash element back minus £70 (unless you cancelled within 24 hours of booking for a full refund).

I recently cancelled a 2-4-1 from LHR to JNB, 26 hours before outbound flight. I was unable to do it through manage my bookings so had to call. The endorsement on my ticket is identical to yours. All Avios and money were returned within 24 hours apart from £70 deduction.
If you cancelled more than 24 hours before departure and a few days have passed, then I would give them a call. I think I recall being told it could take up to 48 hours for both to be returned. By that point of conversation I was so relieved I had got through in time to cancel, I wasn’t paying too much attention!

Several Avios redemptions I’ve cancelled have had that restriction. You should get your cash back (minus the cancellation fee), but it always seems to take 3 or 4 days to appear for me (BA Amex) – it doesn’t show as pending, it just appears.
EDIT: Checking again, there are two variants. If you’ve used a 2-for-1, you’ll have:
*m*redemption/restrictions may apply/no cash refund/non endorsable
Whereas if you just used Avios alone, you’ll have:
*m*redemption/restrictions may apply/restricted refund/non endorsable
Both should refund just fine (again, minus the fee).
Thank you to everyone who responded to my question above; I appreciate that you took the time to reply.
I cancelled my flight on 30th October 2024 – 2 weeks before I was due to fly on 12th November 2024, so I did this in good time. Although I have spoken to the BA Customer Service Centre twice, and submitted a complaint (which they immediately closed!) I have had no success in getting my refund.
It’s reassuring to know that in principle this endorsement should not stop me getting a refund, so I’m going to continuing trying, and am considering a credit card chargeback next.
Thanks again.
I had to do 2 chargebacks against BA during the pandemic, Amex were very helpful with those. I think CS has gone downhill a bit since then, however!
@Pixiedust1 – don’t worry about that endorsement, it’s totally standard and means literally what it says – you can’t get a cash refund for your ticket – it needs to be refunded in Avios or to a credit card etc.
That endorsement is something of a throwback to the olden days when it was possible to get a refund in cash for tickets very easily, so travel agents/corporate agents endorsed tickets to stop passengers cashing in company paid tickets. It’s stuck because now refunds should only be made the the original payer and method of payment.
I would pursue BA for the refund again before going down the chargeback route but if you ultimately have to, the time limit is 120 days.
