Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cancelling an Avios flight booking with BA

  • 7 posts

    Hi everyone
This is a basic question, I will be booking flights using Avios for 4 people who are in my BA household account if I need to cancel the flight for 1 person at a later stage can I do this without having to cancel the whole booking so that the remaining 3 people can still travel?
    Thank you in advance

Just checked on an avios booking for two I have.

When I select cancel on MMB I am just given the option to cancel the whole booking.

So maybe something you need to do over the phone?

If you phone in you can split the booking and cancel one of them

If there’s a significant chance of one person not being able to travel you could always just make a separate booking for them.

I did this recently via phone on a First booking for Mrs GT and son which I had made using Avios and a BA Amex 2-4-1 voucher when it turned out only Mrs would be travelling. They told me the change would cost £35 for each leg of the return ticket and that I would receive a refund of the taxes, fees and charges less that amount (along with the voucher being returned to Mrs GT’s account also).

So far we have indeed received the voucher, the tfc refund (but without the £35 deduction) and we also received all the Avios back on the booking! So a bank error in our favour of £70 and 140k Avios! That is not to say that you will benefit from such largesse but rather to point out that whenever BA must manually intervene to amend a booking then errors can creep in so be alert in case they do happen and are not to your benefit…
