Hiya,
My travel plans have changed and I will no longer need the return leg of a transatlantic VA in economy.
However, need to be a little careful here, as there is no longer any reward availability on the outward leg and who knows if it’ll reappear if I rebook from scratch after cancelling.
Will VA customer service be able to cancel just the return leg? Or is it possible to cancel the return leg after I’ve flown the outward leg?
A ticket lists each flight as a separate sector. If you call and ask them to remove the second sector (i.e. the inbound), then they should be able to do that either before or after the first sector has been flown. I would advise that, to make life easier for all, you do it as soon as possible. They will recalculate the fare, which should result in you getting your points back (so long as it’s at least 24 hours before departure of the cancelled sector) and any refundable taxes. They may keep the YQ (the ‘surcharges’ element of the total fare) – I’ve forgotten.
