Forums Other Destination advice Cape town recommendations – lazy day

    Hi,
Going to CPT, and arriving on my own one day before friends getting there. I was wanting a hotel where I could go and sit by the pool and do nothing, catch up on the book I’ve depressingly got through so little of.
Dinner there or very near by.
I know there are expensive chain or well known hotels, but does anyone know of smaller or hidden gems that would work?
Thanks for any advice or recommendations!

Radisson Red is a fine reasonable value choice

If you can live without the pool (nice garden instead) then Parker Cottage is definitely worth a look.

I did this 25 years ago in economy and was really tired after the flight, and just picked up a cheap place in Belleville with a pool which I recall cost £14(!) – it was fairly near the airport, but there was nothing touristy there – didn’t matter as was asleep by 3pm!

Parker cottage looks exactly like the thing I was thinking, except I would want a pool

I don’t usually do hotel recommendations of places I haven’t stayed at myself but I’ve heard good things about
    President Hotel Bantry Bay and
Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel Kloof Street

You don’t say what time of year you’re visiting, but assuming not winter time. When we visited last year we stayed a couple of nights at the President Hotel on arrival before moving to join rest of family at One and Only at the waterfront. The President is certainly not small. But has pool and restaurants. The hop on hop off bus stops outside if you wanted overview of the city. There’s a small supermarket almost opposite and a few restaurants. We enjoyed a walk along the sea front too.

There was also at least one Mr & Mrs Smith hotel we looked at which also might suit your needs.
