Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Cash now, Avios later?

  • 5 posts

    Good afternoon,

I’ve tried searching the forum for this tactic but have drawn a blank, but it may have been asked before.

If I don’t have enough avios now – and am using an Amex companion voucher -, but expect to by the time we fly; can I bag the seats now by paying with fewer Avios and more cash now, then amend the booking closer to the time and get a refund of the cash in exchange for more Avios?

The scenario is that I have about 90,000 now but the flights require 180,000 which I expect to have by August when we fly.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

    No, basically.

More complex answer – you could obviously cancel the booking later and rebook, but that requires Avios seats to still be available. Might happen, might not. Do NOT assume that the cancelled seats will automatically go back into the reward pot because it doesn’t work that way.

On the upside, you’ll have 90,000 Avios towards your next 241 booking for 2025!

Thanks for the concise answer – it’s worth asking, because there are so many tips and tricks and workarounds on here, you never know!

With the opening up of more seats for CV holders, we’re going to risk it and wait until we have all the Avios, using Boost to get us there more quickly 🙂

I assume you are not flying a super popular route like: Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, did someone add SA to this list recently? Or during half term or christmas?
