Forums Payment cards American Express Charge card products for new applicants

I’m aware that Amex have withdrawn the vast majority of charge card products from the UK market with only the Basic Card being publicly available.

Does anyone know, if I was to take the Baisc Card, would I have the option then to upgrade to the Green, Gold or Platinum charge card.

Unfortunately not, as those cards are discontinued they are now legacy products.

I still hold my original Green Amex Charge and also have the Platinum Charge.

When they mentioned they would be changing the product to credit cards. Customers were given the option of retaining their charge card or closing it and applying for the credit card version.

You cannot upgrade to a product that doesn’t exist as a new customer.

That isn’t correct. You can move between the Membership Rewards earning charge cards range if you currently have a Green/Gold/Platinum charge card.

The reason you can’t change from the basic charge card to any of the above three is because it isn’t an MR earning card.
