Presumably a few others got the same Finnair Avios Subscription email as I got just now? Pricing looks like roughly 1p per Avios, so not a bargain, but not bad.
Finnair now offering avios subscriptions – just got an email from them
You can choose the most suitable subscription package for you from four options: 2,000, 4,000, 10,000 or 20,000 Avios per month. You can select to pay for the subscription either monthly or prepay it for the whole year.
No idea of prices as can’t find my log in!
(Just seen I’m not the first to post but at least I provided a link!)
Ah, missed this before I posted.
Discovered a happy quirk in BA’s system today. Normally balances on long haul holiday bookings are due 7 weeks prior to departure, but while speaking to BAH today to pay a balance (their on line system wasn’t completing the payment for some reason) it appears that mine was set at 4 weeks prior as I have a UK domestic with overnight connection – their system categorised my BAH as short haul and set my balance due date as only 4 weeks prior to departure.
First time cruiser this summer with Royal Caribbean with a young family. I know there are a few people on here who are seasoned cruisers, so wanted to ask for any broader tips for making the most of it. We have a boardwalk facing balcony room and will be travelling with a 4 and 7 year old.
Im also wondering if there is any form of status match or similar, and if this is of any benefit? We have a plethora of status with different hotels (as you would expect for a reader of this website) and wife is BA Silver if that helps.
Thanks
Bit of a humblebrag, for which I apologise, but I get 24 hours prenotice that my “bid for an upgrade” on VS has been successful, as it appears as a *pending* charge on the VS credit card app.
£400 isn’t bad from JFK 🙂 It’s the 2nd time in a month from JFK that the lowest bid has been successful for me.
At current exchange rates;
Finnair will sell you 20,000 Avios a month for one year for an upfront price of 2808 Euros, = 0.98 pence per Avios
Avios.com will sell you 16,667 Avios a month for one year for an upfront price of £1989 GBP, = 0.99 pence per Avios
Avios.com will let you can triple boost the Avios you have earned in the last 30 days for 0.92 pence per Avios
That pricing for triple boost is capped at 300,000 Avios per yearAlthough Avios.com seems slightly more expensive than Finnair, you are paying in GBP so it is worth using an Amex card. Using a BAPP to buy an Avios subscription from Avios.com is slightly cheaper than buying from Finnair, because of the additional Avios you earn on the credit card. Using an Amex Rewards card, the free BA card, or the free Barclaycard, the extra Avios earned on the transaction means the cost is pretty much the same as buying from Finnair.
Finnair would be worth considering if the Pound strengthens against the Euro (or if you want a subscription for more than 200,000 per person per year).
ETA:- “(A Finnair) Avios subscription keeps your Finnair Plus account active, and your Avios won’t expire.”
Thanks for taking the time to write that.
@ecugkq30 Make sure you have any visas you need well in advance, one example is Bali where it is technically possible to obtain a visa on arrival but the cruise line won’t let you board without one, so e-visa is required. WiFi onboard can be poor, so if you are looking at screen time for the kids then load it up before. Check your travel insurance for cruise cover. If you are buying extras, drinks, wifi, dining etc then it is usually cheaper to do it in advance, this can usually also be cancelled and rebooked if the price drops. Cruise critic has some pretty good message boards including a roll call for each particular departure. Most importantly though, don’t miss the cruise ship, it won’t wait for you! Enjoy.
SLH spend £300 get £100 back, on BAPP, Expires 15/08/25.
@ecugkq30 Royal Caribbean only status match with cruise lines in the owning group ( so Silversea and Celebrity). Airline and hotel status will get you nowhere.
What’s the itinerary for the cruise?Has anyone flown into Lisbon over the last couple of days? We’re off there for a half-term break tomorrow and have read that passport queues have been worse than usual.
Flight lands early afternoon and we’re hoping to make the Women’s Champions’ League Final by 5pm. Tales of 2+ hour waits are making me doubt our chances. Any recent experience or tips?

I was there couple of weeks ago (and @Froggee and @davestat recently).
Yes, queues on arrival to be expected. 7pm arrival for me and partly due to only 3 booths working it took over 1hr to get in. Similar size queue to leave, but as all but 1 booth operating it only took 25mins to get out.
Partly depends how many officers working and how many other flights arriving at similar time to your flight…
If you have young children there is a family lane on far left as you arriveHas anyone flown into Lisbon over the last couple of days? We’re off there for a half-term break tomorrow and have read that passport queues have been worse than usual.

Can’t speak for immigration times, but I’ve visited the Jose Alvalade Stadium a few times. It’s really close to the Campo Grande Metro Station. There’s currently a lot of pavement reconstruction on the side of the station away from the stadium. Using the wrong station exit could really waste a lot of your time. If you get the right station exit (can’t remember which one) then you’re 2 minutes’ walk away. The Metro from the airport requires one fairly quick line change, but I often find the ticket machines at the airport are slow and have queues. The distance is short so taking a taxi might be an option if you’re short on time. The Metro also goes quite far away from Campo Grande before circling back in that direction.
Finally, if you see Viktor Gyokeres, no trying to take him to Arsenal 😉
