This is today’s chat thread.
If you have specific questions about Avios, hotels or credit cards, please ask them in the appropriate forum and not here. This thread is a good place to post interesting deals you have spotted or your general thoughts on travel and all things miles and points. Thank you for contributing.
morning all
Having a splendid 10 days in St Lucia at present and happened to check the app to check return flight on Saturday. Appears that, 5 days in advance, it is already “delayed”. Is this the wonder of BA IT or clairvoyance?Talking of delays, it appears Gatwick has achieved a milestone! Manchester fared slightly better, so for all those pax that moan about MAN, spare a thought for us down south 😉

Morning all.
What is going on in Edinburgh next year?! All weekends in Feb/March at some hotels seem to require a minimum 3-night stay and prices are north of £400 pn even at voco and HI. I know prices have been silly in recent times but this seems like another level.

This is BA Operations plotting current and estimated delays based on the current position of the plane due to operate yours.
At some point the delay will almost certainly vanish because the actuality caught back up with the schedule or they switched in another plane.

Possibly waiting for the six nations fixtures to be released so they can then set the rates accordingly.
Why when checking flights using a CV from Inv to Chicago is it the same price as Edi to Chicago if there is no APD from Inv. Is it because it is a RFS fare? I have also checked leaving Madrid and Dublin and is more expensive again and only offering BA flight options and not Iberia or EL options?
When is this for? There may well be no availability from MAD or DUB as they don’t guarantee as many seats as BA. You can double check on IB website though, as that will show the same availability as BA, it may be BA having a glitch.
You also have to pay for connecting flights from outside the UK, which will push up the avios and cash required on BA routes.
Re INV I don’t know if they’ve now closed that loophole via RFS fees.
The cash fees on avios fares – RFS or not – bear little to no relation to the actual government taxes and airport fees and are basically what BA want to charge and feel they can get away with.
I was checking something else and spotted that APD is now 31 years old – with very little changed from the original iteration including the exemptions for remote Scottish airports

We have been putting up with this from MAN for years and so it is only right that we share the pain with our Southern friends now😀

Looks like they are waiting until Mens’ Six Nations rugby dates are announced
Ahh, that make sense now! Anyway, I have now booked the perfectly adequate and excellent value HI East Kilbride for 21k points per night, which offers free parking and free access to the pool!
Woke to the fire alarm sounding at Radisson Blu Jersey…..6am! These things happen and it was reset pretty quickly. Woke the kids though! Funny thing was, when I heard it and started waking up, all disoriented, I thought I was at the Crowne Plaza T4!! That’s how many times it’s happened there….but they never turn it off 😂

On departure from the UK, RFS is often less than APD/Heathrow PSC combined, let alone any destination arrival taxes. The return RFS usually has fewer disbursements but often quite little is retained by BA. What is retained by BA is now within the Avios that increased when RFS was introduced.
Hi all, a couple of months ago someone posted a really useful website where people had been putting down how pong it took for passport renewal. I can’t seem to find that thread (Rob do they only go far back, I asked the question in Feb). I can’t for the life of me remember what that website it, can anyone help? Thank you!

That’s the point I’m making!
Cash element of avios is whatever BA want it to be.

There was some reference to passports in a chat on 19th March? If it’s any help, my daughter was given a renewal turnaround of a week, that was by post, and 3 weeks ago.
‘Walked’ from a hotel for the first time, due to our room not being available (a/c malfunction and no other room available for the first night out of a 4 night stay)
And I really didn’t expect to be literally walked every bit of the way:
Front of house manager:
– arranged a suitably equivalent room 10 mins away
– called a car
– comped 1 x lunch whilst the car came
– went in the car with us
– arranged for late checkout at the new place
– went all the way in to the new room with us
– confirmed we were happy
– collected us in person the next day
– upgraded our remaining 3 nights to an exec suite
– comped another 1 x dinnerTalk about service recovery, Thailand is a step above!
Edit: I’ll do a trip report with the resort details another day!
@Travel Strong I suspect the hotel was overbooked but they didn’t want to lose the other 3 mights of your stay. In fact I’d lay money on it.
A pleasant start for the day:
Over the holidays few days ago, I had a tummy bug, so had to abandon various train trips in the continent. Amex Platinum travel insurance approved my claim within 24 hours! Yes, that’s the new provider — granted my claim was about £120, I am sure it made a difference.Well, our trip to Rome on Thursday could be interesting given the news of the Pope passing away. We’re there until Sunday, as heading off on a cruise then. Had planned to visit the Vatican museum, Sistine chapel etc, but think this will be a no go (understandably).

I would still go – not sure about visiting the Sistine Chapel itself but I am pretty sure the rest of St Peters will be visitable. I was reminiscing with my mum earlier today about this. Way back in August 1978 we had just arrived in Rome and at breakfast the waiter was in tears – he kept saying “Il papa è morto” and my dad turned to us and said “How sad, the hotel makes the waiter work when his father has died”…
Good afternoon from the Priority Pass lounge in SEZ!
I had a pleasant morning on Beau Vallon beach, only slightly marred by awful service at the front desk of the Berjaya. I am honestly baffled by the people who come to the Seychelles, but don’t leave Mahe. Beau Vallon is nice, but not a patch on the beaches of La Digue and Praslin.
Anyway, fingers crossed I should be in school by breaktime tomorrow morning!
Thanks again for your help!
