MalagaCar is similar – you have to get a shuttle to a huge warehouse full of vehicles then queue with loads of other tourists. Best value we’ve found in Spain though, and genuinely decent vehicles.
Minecraft was very funny, apart from the parents on either side of us on their phones 😡. This is clearly modern etiquette now so I suppose I should be grateful that at least they weren’t watching different films without headphones 😂
@NorthernLass Last time I experienced that in the cinema I complained, the staff did nothing so I insisted on a full refund which was honoured. It makes my blood boil.
Just cash out to Paypal. Your GBP Paypal account will accept the USD fine and will convert them to GBP to withdraw to your bank.
I receive money from class action lawsuits all the time on my UK Paypal account, from when I lived in the US (~$45 a couple of weeks ago from Meta, e.g.).
Thanks! Useful to know it’s that simple 🙂
Evening all! I’ve just been charged VAT on a reward stay at Voco Cardiff, at 20% of the equivalent cash room rate. I’ve never been charged VAT previously on a reward stay, dues anyone know if this is a new policy or is it standard now at IHG? Thanks, Lee
@strickers, I would feel a bit silly complaining my enjoyment of a kid’s film was being disrupted 😂. In revenge I didn’t dissuade my ward from adjusting his seat and rustling his sweet wrappers!
Tickets were courtesy of Halifax so I don’t feel too short-changed.

Never heard of this and would have refused to pay it if it wasn’t specified on the original booking – in which case I would have cancelled and gone elsewhere!
*Also isn’t this illegal as what would they be paying VAT on? Don’t they get a tiny amount from IHG?
Yes that is completely out of order. VAT is due on what you pay, so by definition if you don’t pay anything no VAT is due.
Points have no monetary value, and the arrangement between IHG and the customer is unrelated.
How would the cash rate be defined and documented anyway?
Sounds like they made a mistake. I’m 99% certain someone at reception mistakenly removed the points booking from the reservation during check-in, put in a dummy night at BAR rate so they could check you in. Then at a later time they fixed it, but the night audit automatically computes VAT and they forgot to remove that the next morning. If you stayed multiple nights the system might keep posting VAT.
