Good morning from the unusually quiet BA Lounge at Edinburgh. Just a day trip to the sweltering badlands of London for me.

And a warning that it is Royal Highland Show weekend so anyone coming into or out of Edinburgh must allow extra time. My 20 min journey took 35 at 515 and it’s only going to get worse.

Who thought building an international airport next to an agricultural showground was a good idea????

    Hi there,

Just seeing if someone has woken up today and realised they have a spare ticket for the party tonight.

    Just Nick

Easier to fly with budget carriers and pay for all the extras. Still haven’t put a single work flight through BA since these changes and been impressed with both the budget carriers and also SAS, KLM and Lufthansa for European economy flights.

Interesting article around how there will now be a Spanish-controlled frontier post after the Gibralter one in order to enter the territory. It will now be treated as a “third country” so follow Schengen entry/exit rules including minimum passport validity and stays are subject to the 90 in 180 day rule. Just a heads up if you have upcoming trips to check passports.

There will no longer be a border between Spain and Gibraltar (in theory, we’ll have to wait and see how it pans out), and both Spanish and Gibraltarian (or Gibraltese, as David Lammy thinks they are called) agents will operate at Gib airport.

The devil is going to be in the detail but it does look as though Spanish immigration agents will have ultimate say over whether UK passport holders can enter a British territory! Obviously the new arrangement will benefit Gibraltar in terms of free flow of workers and other travellers between Gib and Spain. Spain’s official position remains that Gibraltar should be handed back to it, however.

The bigger change will be the imposition of a 15% sales tax in Gibraltar as part of the border deal.

PS Gibraltese isn’t an incorrect term!

Morning all waiting at new street station for my train to Euston and will see some hopefully friendly faces at the hfp summer party.

It seemed to annoy the Gibraltarians commenting on the media reports. The VAT issue appears to have had a mixed response. It remains to be seen whether Spain will cease the illegal incursions into Gibraltar’s land and waters now they have “boots on the ground”!
