With short haul economy flights, how long is the flight before you’d really prefer a better seat? It’s about 3.5 hours for me.
I would prefer a better seat for anything longer than 90 minutes. Unfortunately, better seats are not available on most short haul flights in Europe. Consequently, I avoid travelling to Europe.
My OH spends a lot of time in Portugal on his own, because I find the flight so bloody uncomfortable. Last time I flew Club Europe to Lisbon, it aggravated my sciatica for days afterwards. An empty seat next to you does little to alleviate the discomfort.
I did survive Economy to Helsinki recently. It was an A320, so not worth getting Business Class, and there were lots of empty seats, but I would have paid for J if it had been the A350.
I also did a short haul in economy on Asiana recently. A very old A330 with good legroom and well padded seats. It was very comfortable. If only short haul in Europe was as comfortable, I would travel more.
I’ve always paid for Domestic First in the US, and I would pay for a similar product in Europe if it was available.
Myself and another unknown single passenger (I assume) have had window and aisle exit seats for many months on a trip next week. This morning someone has been keen / desperate enough to take the middle – when the rest of the cabin is looking pretty empty.
Just why?! That’s like the weirdo sitting next to you on an otherwise empty bus or train 🤦🏻♀️😂
Anyway, American pope, eh, what a coincidence 🤷♀️ 🤔
Although I loath economy it’s not just about flight time it’s about convenience. So you fly to Dalaman – do I suffer 4 hours of hell from LBA ( 10 mins from where I live) or drive to Manchester overnight at LHR and then 4 hours from Heathrow in order to fly biz. Four hours is defo my max in economy.
I have absolutely no problem flying 15 hours non stop in biz but the thought of my return flight from Dalaman is already giving me a cold sweat.
@davedent I’m also off to Dalaman in a few months, managed to get CE on avios outbound but the return leg reward flights had sold out so it’s an extortionate cash seat for me as all that was left was flexible economy! Goes without saying I have a SeatSpy alert on, hoping for some last minute luck as I could at least cancel the flex booking for a full refund and rebook with avios (fingers and toes crossed…)

I flew Man-Lhr-Dalaman in CE last year as I needed the tier points ( what are those) it was the same price as a JET2 return from LBA.
LBA.

As in the best CSI dramas I don’t believe in coincidences!

I see no reason to go through all that hassle and expense in order just to fly Club Europe to Turkiye.

LBA.
I am going in school holidays so the cash prices are eye watering, but have still gladly paid a little extra to fly BA on the return rather than Sun Express, EasyJet was almost exactly the same price as BA and at least my fare is cancellable and I paid on BAPP for some extra avios! Plus even as lowly bronze I can hopefully snag an aisle seat at T-7 to stretch the legs a bit. Silver linings.
