Update on my Mobility Scooter incident in Spain

Amex has paid out – less a small wear and tear deduction – thankfully.

Ryanair still has not responded to the claim. Won’t be chasing ( or using again with a scooter – normally the disability service is ok-ish and free seat selection – at the back by the loo )

Is there anyone who offers a dedicated insurance for these devices ?

Just had to cancel a booking at The Thistle for Monday as discovered there’s no lift. I had no idea until I happened to stumble upon it in a review. Might be helpful for others if they didn’t know!

Sad I won’t get to try the pods though.

Interesting day in Portugal yesterday with no Power from 11.00 am to almost midnight. Even got a msg from BAH about it and how to contact for support, but obviously couldn’t read it. absolutely everything was out so no phones, no shops, no TV, Internet and no ability to cook food. Did find one supermarket (Continente) who would put LHR to shame with their contingency planning in terms of how to keep a giant supermarket open and function. Even serving coffee, although a long queue. I know JDB will tell me it’s a different scale but it shows what can happen when you plan.

This morning I used PayPal to pay a mate for my share of tickets. I noticed a warning near all credit cards but not Amex regarding potential cash advance fee.
I’ve never seen this before when making ‘Friends and family’ payments. Is it new? Did something change?
    And why not for Amex?

They do allow the occasional small payment. But if you start abusing it, your amex account will be in trouble.

My question is about PayPal not Amex.
Also as I mentioned the warning was for non-Amex cards only so has nothing to do with Amex.

I’ve had that sign next to my Barclays Avios card for many months. However, I don’t get charged when using it for friends and family payments.

    Interesting, thank you
One of the cards with the warning is Barclaycard Avios in fact.
Might give it a try next time

I’ve got the glamour of a flight from Glasgow Prestwick to look forward to. From what I can see, I’ll be able to order a bottle from duty free to collect there (to gift at my destination). Anywhere decent to eat there nowadays, or am I best packing a sandwich?

I stayed there for the first time recently and they were asking everyone who checked in if they were happy to go upstairs without a lift. If not there were plenty of ground floor rooms.

OH is out there visiting his parents while working from home. Luckily, his mobile phone was working and he had data so he was able to do an important work meeting on line.

Astonishing that the grid for two countries can go down like this.

Chat GPT is good for suggesting itineraries. Ask the questions and refine the itinerary it suggests with more information.

Yes use it a lot for itineraries, ideas on what to do in destinations and also flights. Its brilliant at giving you recommendations and day by day activities etc. I used it to piece together my Kenya/Zanzibar trip next year.

Where I live I tend to need three to get somewhere in Europe so find AI great at combing through options and presenting me the most efficient given the parameters I set – I know some will say you can use Skyscanner etc. but these websites will return 35hr journeys and 2 overnights whereas AI can drill down to specific sets of flights which its then easy to go away and book.

I had a friend recommend deep research on chaptGPT 4.0 which is supposed to be even better but not had chance to play with it yet.

Booking with a company called esky.com, buyer beware, but hey it may not be too good to be true.

Just flew back on BA 122 from Doha to LHR. Club world seating leaves a lot to be desired as compared to QR. poorly designed; cant reach footwell unless fully reclines, suite doors rattled all the way and would not close wwithout crew assistance, cant get out of seat unless you completely retract the seat to take off/landing position…

Food was mediocre with poached eggs so hard that they were inedible. coffee is still terrible.

    Why does BA do this!

It was a BAPP 241 voucher flight paid with avios not that makes a difference to the product

enjoying Hyatt regency Churcull for a couple of days in London till we head back home.No USB charging points next to bed and the socket requires an adaptor to take english plugs and this is supposedly a refurnished room

Out on 18/9 back 9/10 £600 (no stopovers) could be worth the risk – book on a credit card

There’s an article on Loyalty Lobby about someone else’s experience of booking this and seeming to end up with an economy ticket not business.

Do you have a phobia about sleeping on the Ground floor?

Also as I mentioned the warning was for non-Amex cards only so has nothing to do with Amex.

It’s all about the card issuer, not about PayPal.

Merchants are required to process the transaction with an appropriate Merchant Category Code (MCC). It’s then up to the Card company how they treat each MCC. Some card issuers have a broader view of “cash-like” transactions than others. For example, some card issuers will treat a Council parking fine as a cash-like transaction and will process it as a cash advance, others will treat it as a purchase transaction.

So some Visa & MasterCard card issuers consider a payment to friends and family as a cash-like transaction and treat it as a cash advance. Amex, as a vertically integrated issuer, doesn’t currently treat them as a Cash Advance. Amex will, however, log the transactions and investigate if they flag you as making a suspicious level of F&F cash-like transactions and will close your account.

AI is frequently wrong and on occasion actively makes things up!

Chat GPT 4.0 with reasoning mode on is far better than previous versions. I got a very good itinerary for my day trip to Oslo. However, when it offered to plot on a Google map for me, the route it plotted for me was a bizarre zig zag when all the points actually formed a near perfect oval! So it’s getting better and for basic plans and outlines of things that don’t change it’s decent but I still wouldn’t use for up to date specifics
