Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster – great to be here!
I’m flying on BA109 to Dubai in Club World on Weds (1st Feb) as a redemption using a companion voucher, and then back again on BA104 also in Club World the following Weds (8th feb).
Sadly BA only uses Club Suite fitted aircraft sporadically on this route, so I’ve come to terms with the fact that we’ll be sat yin-yang. However I’ve been doing some inspecting and it seems that BA105 (LHR-DXB) and BA104 (DXB-LHR), both the same aircraft, is quite often a Club Suites 772. I’m already booked on 104 on the way back and checked BA and the seat map is showing as the old seat, however I was wondering if anyone knows if equipment changes are frequent on this route (i.e. swapping it out for another 772?) – as almost all 772’s now have Club Suites so I’m literally missing out by only a slim margin!
I’m wondering if it’s also worth swapping my flight to BA105, as it only leaves an hour before our current outbound flight, to up my chances. Or, whether I should shhh and settle with my Upper Deck seats with tonnes of storage and be done?
Any insights based on previous experience is much appreciated! Again, fully come to terms with the fact that we’ll be in the old seat and not too upset by it, however would love to put myself in the best position for if something was to change 🙂
105 on the 01st Feb is currently a 777 with old Club World. Yes, it could change according to aircraft availability under real world circumstances (weather, tech issues etc) – but it’s planned onto the old config right now.
Personally, I’d stick with the A380. Particularly if your status has allowed you to nab a decent seat. But only you know whether you want to take the gamble!
BA will want to charge you the change fee to switch flights. they don’t regard a plane swap as reason to allo a free change.
Whilst “the old CW” is broadly the same between the 777 and the A380, half of the remaining non-CS 777s have particularly old interiors including the IFE. A few reports on FT of people upset with the state of the 777. So, another vote for sticking with your UD A380 seat as there is more to lose than there is to gain – especially if you are relying on BA for the IFE.
G-YMMU is the offending bird – it’s in it’s original 14 year old config with tiny IFE, no power etc and has been turning up on Dubai recently. I believe it’s the last one flying, the other 2 have gone to Cardiff now, hopefully for refit! All other 3 class LHR 777-200 have been done
Personally I wouldn’t swap an a380 for a 777 even if it had an Etihad apartment on board. Further, I still have a soft spot for old CW, being able to sit face to face with a travelling companion beats flying in a toilet cubicle IMO. Different story if flying solo, on a very long flights where you want to sleep, or old CW bed is too short.
@BJ, that’s not really fair, there’s much less leg room in a BA toilet cubicle 😂. I was in your lovely neck of the woods this weekend, quite impressed with the Leith HIE!
