Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Confused about tier point renewal

  • sturgeon 287 posts

I’m not sure how to find out when my tier point collection year was meant to end, now it says 31st March 2025 (and that my membership card expires 31st July 2025). I have 250 tier points, 50 earned from flights and 200 earned from BA Amex. The Amex points posted early April 2024 and the flights were April and August. I’m pretty sure my membership year ended 31st March anyway, which happens to match the new date for everyone.

I got to Bronze from this but I’m now racking my brain as to how this happened as 300 points were required.

Either way, I am booking some flights in march. If I book one leg as business then I’d earn 50 points total to get me back up to 300 which matches the tier points tracker/goal in my BA account to achieve Bronze again.

However, with last year’s changes to tier earning periods, if I’m Bronze now is that actually going to extend until April 2026 regardless? So will earning these extra 50 tier points before March 31st to get back up to 300 actually achieve anything?

Apparently my BA anniversary date was 8th June according to a previous note I found. As these 250 points all posted after April 1st 2024, I’m still confused if my Bronze is automatically going to renew for a year on 1st April 2025, despite the tracker on BA’s site showing me at 250/300 points to keep gold with the deadline being March 31st.

Would it be that I keep Bronze until 31st March 2025 and also carry over 250 points, so I actually need to earn 50 points after April 1st to keep it from 1st April 2026? And therefore me trying to earn 50 before March 31st won’t count for anything?

From the HFP article it says for those with memberships expiring 8th June, “A Tier Point Adjustment will be made at the start of your shortened collection period (on 9th June 2024), re-crediting any tier points and qualifying flights you earned from 1st April 2024 – 8th June 2024
Any status earned or renewed during this period will be valid until 30th April 2026”

So if reading correctly, as I earned my Bronze status on 22nd April 2024, is that now staying until 30th April 2026 and hence earning the remaining 50 tier points on my tracker expiring 31st March 2025 is pointless/does nothing?

You’ve basically answered most of your own questions, but without convincing yourself that you have. If your card expires 31st July 2025 then your old collection period would have ended 8th June 2024 as you’ve confirmed. By implication you earned 300TP June 2023 – June 2024, giving you your current status.

You are now in the transition collection period April 2024 – March 2025, and you need to earn 300TP in that period to retain Bronze status after your card expires in July, which is consistent with what you have said about the current numbers showing in your account.

While you may have acquired Bronze status on 22nd April 2024, that was earned for the previous June – June collection period not the current April – March period, so correctly expires in July 2025. It will only be renewed (to 30th April 2026) if you reach 300TP in the period April 2024 – March 2025, which is what you are currently planning.

Thanks. So when the article says “A Tier Point Adjustment will be made at the start of your shortened collection period (on 9th June 2024), re-crediting any tier points and qualifying flights you earned from 1st April 2024 – 8th June 2024

So being on 250 tier points, the trackers on BA are definitely correct and I need 50 more?

    AndrewT 561 posts

Yep that’s correct. As I said you ‘earned’ your current status by collecting 300TP during the period June 2023 – June 2024. The fact that it was awarded, kicked in, activated, started or whatever in April is not relevant to the transition overlap. It was not earned in the April 2024 – March 2025 period because you have not (yet) collected 300TP in that period.

I’ve also found myself confused and just hope that someone can confirm my understanding.

I’m currently at 150 TP, my collection year is ending March 8.
That means that I’ll have a short “adjustment period” between March 8 and March 31 2025.
As it happens I’ll earn ~1000 TPs in late March.

So that means that in order to hit Gold, I need to earn the missing 350 TPs some time between now and March 31st? Otherwise I’ll just get 0, and will start with 0 TPs on April 1st when BAEC moves to a new system.

    AndrewT 561 posts

Not enough info to definitively answer that. You need 1500TP April 2024 – March 2025 for Gold, so the ‘missing’ number depends on whether any of the existing 150TP were earned in March 2024, as they won’t get carried over to the transition year.

1000TP will get you Silver regardless until April 2026, and yes we will all be starting again from zero on April 1st.

Right, sorry for omitting key info. The 150TPS were earned after July 2024, so they shouldn’t expire.

It will be easier to work out if you just forget about the previous system and its dates and just count up all the TPs you have earned (or will earn) between 1st April 2024 and 31st March 2025.

All TPs would get zeroed out anyway on 1st April and is unrelated to the new TP system coming in.
