Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Converting Virgin Points to Emirates Skywards points

    Would this be possible transferring virgin points to IHG or Korean Air programs, then back into Skywards miles?

    It isn’t clear what you’re asking.

    The only airlines you can convert Virgin Points to are VS, DL, AF and KL – so, no, you can’t convert to EK (to answer the question in your topic subject) and to answer the second question (about converting to KE). You can move in either direction to IHG One Rewards, with details at https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/flying-club/travel-partners/hotel-partners.html, but the rate isn’t necessarily in your favour. If you did that, though, it might be possible to convert to Skywards miles from there, but do read the terms (or ask IHG) because other schemes forbid this pseudo-laundering.

    Slip of the keyboard there I’m sure @Al. You can’t convert VS points to those airlines, you can book flights via Virgin’s sales channels when it works, if there’s availability and if you’ve sacrified a chicken under the full moon 🙂

    Direct conversion between airline points schemes isn’t possible with any airline. Transfers obviously possible between OW, Air Lingus, BA, Qatar, Finnair, Iberia again when the IT works.

    @stevek2001
    Yes, what you’re asking is possible, VS converts to IHG at 1:1 (min 10k then 5k chunks) 10,000 IHG converts to 2000 Skypass miles

    Fantastic I thought this would be possible via IHG. My 200k virgin points would therefore convert to 50k emirates miles. 200k virgin miles easily gets me 4 economy to premium economy peak long haul
    Upgrades. Any idea
    What 50k emirates miles gets you in terms
    Of upgrade?

    Thats return tickets too for virgin it’s about 20k points one way for a peak long haul upgrade to PE

    @stevek2001 you’ll need more than 50k depending on the cash fare. One-way upgrades economy to business LHR-DXB is 82k for saver, 50.7k for flex and 39k for flex plus cash tickets. Upgrades to PE are not possible though one-way straight redemption in PE is 47.5k (that’s if you can find one)

    Wow so you’re loosing a huge amount
    Of value by converting…

    That’s usually the case.

    Good catch, @davefl! I was making an assumption that I shouldn’t have done.

    Yeah, the chicken sacrifice often gets forgotten 😉
