    Definition of thrifty:

    *Using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully*

    So one can be very rich and still be thrifty, e.g. using avios to fly in F to South America where one has negotiated good rates on local hotels where one hangs out with one’s billionaire pals. Just a hypothetical example, obviously, this is also possible in the USA and Dubai though Maldives does seem to be a comprehensive fleecing however you look at it these days (we did it extremely thriftily on an AI from Teletext back in the day) 😂

    And we’re back on track! If you scroll back through the comments, a number of people posted within a short period about getting the points and whether they accepted or not. It’ll be around April 3rd/4th.

    Oh no we haven’t!

    If I get 20 5cl milk cartons with the coffee machine at the IC Bora Bora will that mean a litre is free – because of the voucher, or my free breakfast as Diamond Ambassador. Or is it £1500 because that’s what the night is selling for now?

    So it sounds as though they are awarding vouchers for spend AFTER the closure notices were sent out, but not before! You might argue that customers in the latter category are actually more deserving, but that would require some sort common sense on the part of Creation, I suppose.

    Could you get a litre of milk with the theoretical £9 at the IC Bora Bora, @Colin?!

    I think this is what has happened to me – I am due the free night voucher (£10k spent by anniversary of October) and c 3k points and refund. Refund now received (for the amount charged in October) but nothing form closure letter date to October not the free night voucher nor the points)… I have asked both Creation and FoS to follow up to see why I have not got anything.

    Anyone else just had this from Creation? It looks completely generic so I don’t know if they’ve sent it to everyone or it’s their response to my response that my claim hasn’t been fully settled!

    Following the communication we received from the Financial Ombudsman Service, we can confirm that any extra IHG reward points, and a free night stay voucher, if they were due, have already gone over to IHG and should now be showing on your rewards account.

    I got one about my annual fee but not other stuff!

    If you went to buy a litre of milk at £1, handed over a tenner and the shopkeeper told you they were keeping your change, would you be happy? £9 is £9.

    More apt if the milk was 91p, you gave £1 and the shopkeeper said they had no change.

    Funnily enough in 2021 I bought a car for £14000 and wanted to pay by CC, they said they had to add a fee of £80 which I agreed to. When time came to make the payment they said they had miscalculated and the fee amount they should have told me was actually £89.

    £89 is quite different from £80, but £14089 is not that different to £14080.

    I still think I’m owed a 2nd free night – Creation withheld the one I should have had in October 2021 on my card anniversary, as well as the one I wasn’t sure I would earn by spending £10k during the closure period. But it now seems as though everyone (including my OH) is being given the certificate earned during the closure period, therefore I’m still missing my 2020-2021 one! I’ve communicated this to the FOS who have said they will follow it up with Creation.

    I haven’t asked for the fee back. It was actually refunded to my card account during the closure period but I never claimed it.

    I’m missing the one legitimately earned and withheld in October 2021 as well. It seems that cohort has been missed.

    Accidentally missed or deliberately withheld?

    My year end was also October and I wonder if Creation think that by refunding accounts fees in November they stopped us from reaching year end and so are entitled to withhold the FNC. This would be the basis on the basis of the previous FOS case JDB quoted about Creation and the FNC only becoming valid if the customer paid the next year’s account fee.

    Hopefully they’ve simply overlooked these given the time elapsed since the accounts were closed. Otherwise it wouldn’t make any sense that they would be deliberately withholding them while handing them out to anyone who spent £10k between October and December 2021.

    Your figures aren’t more apt as you’re talking about a loss of 9p, which is only 1% of the actual loss experienced. The point I was making is that the value of the lost £9 is the same, you could have done exactly the same things with that £9, whether you lost it on a carton of milk or on an expensive car, to use your next example.

    So looks like I’m pretty much all done with Creation. IHG points and free night voucher already received and had the email from them below yestrday confirming the pro rata fee refund. Ut’s taken a while but actually am pretty surprised it\s got sorted this quickly from once I heard from the FOS:

    This is the same email I posted above a few days ago, though in my case they owe me 2 free nights so I’m not done yet!

    15 months after I requested it, Creation have refunded the credit balance on my closed IHG Premium rewards card.
    They have also refunded £13.83 – which I had not requested – for the 7 weeks left of my subscription at the time of closure.
    The outcome is better than I could have hoped.

    After getting the “if they were due” email, Creation have no put £96.xx into my bank account. Since my year end was mid-November, that’ll be the pro-rata refund.

    Now, I hadn’t actually claimed for the fee – I had reminded Creation that they had already refunded the £99 and told the FOS I had received the £99, not made any spend since the August (having reached about 11 or 12k in March, and put the card in the drawer) but wanted the Free Night.

    But no sign of the Free Night.

    I though mine was one of the simplest cases!

    no pro rata refund for me yet. Player 2 has had hers and they have sent it to bank account but left behind a £12.50 refund that’s been on the account for a while. Messages been sent to to them to process that which they have just ignored. They are a shambles of a firm

    Seems anyone who should have got free night as anniversay between August and December did not get them, but got refund of £99. Anyone who spent £10k after notification of closure has got free night. Seems very wrong…. Also not got my missing points from August and September post notification. Surely just an error on their part rather than anything else?

    I am March 23rd year end. Have received my free night for 2022/3. Have today been charged £99 for the next yearly fee. All good so far, and all points credited. No problems with any Curve forced closing of the account and will run normal use for as long as I can.

    No letter yet from IHG or Creation re closing in June. I will spend £10k by then anyhow.

    Also the counter reset today and my spend since March 23rd has been counted towards the next £10k

    So after end June I expect to get a c £75 refund for the part annual fee and the free night credit (do we get this in June 2023 or have to wait until March 2024?) and is it valid 1 year from issue or until End 2024 or even March 2025?

    If you’ve not had a letter from Creation, your notice period hasn’t started yet so keep on spending!

    I contact the Financial Ombudsman (was that the correct office to contact?) and I am being asked for the Ombudsman Complaint Reference number. Does anyone have that or should I be contacting the FCA not the Ombudsman ?

    Have you submitted a complaint to the FOS? You would have received a confirmation email with a case reference number, starting something like PNX then numbers.
